Without a doubt. No way Weeks was trying to embarrass Mike, IMO. How unprofessional is that? Mike was fighting in his hometown and the crowd was absolutely electric throughout the fight. The corner was talking about it but they seemed unsure, like you said he just wanted to make sure that's what Mike wanted.

Cortez followed the rules of boxing. He didn't let Hatton hold and hit, and Hatton was a dead man after that.

I agree. I didn't like how he got in Mike's face asking him to say it. It's the corners job to stop it and protect their fighter from himself and from the fans. He would have got less shiet if Weeks just let the corner stop it.

When you say "didn't let him hold and hit" you mean not letting him fight inside right? That's why i chuckled a bit when you said that Cortez "followed the rules of boxing". The rules would have only been violated if Hatton was committing fouls, which he was not doing. If anything, Floyd was not "following the rules" since he was using elbows. Watch any old time fight and tell me if the ref is breaking the fight every few seconds. The funny thing is, is that i was rooting for Floyd in that fight and still root for him today, but BS is BS. When the ref took away Hatton's inside fighting, the fight was over.

These ref's today are real crooked and has ruined some potentially great fights. Some are paid off, and the others think that the fans pay to see them instead of the fighters. Just like that ball headed idiot ref that kept screaming at Mike Mollo over every little thing when he fought Arthur Szpilka in the first fight.

The ref was a feckin idiot, yes it says inly the ref can stop the fight but if the corner are saying stop the fight then the ref should stop the fight.

Why embarrass a fighter who has nothing left in the tank.

I think he was seeing some conflict in Alvarados corner and decided the fair thing to do was to go ahead and ask the fighter.

It's a bit ******, never seen it happen but it is allowed for the referee to throw the towel out of the ring if the corner throws it in.

In a brutal fight that one boxer is taking tremendous punishment, any ref that doesn't stop the fight if the corner give the go ahead is a ******.

C: We want to stop the fight.

R: Your fighter still want to fight.

C: We said fight is over.

R: Fight is still on, your fighter hasn't said no.

Why should a fighter have to say no mas before the fight could be stop, if Provo corner was to tell Week that if you don't stop this fight we're done because this man could be kill, Week should step in.

I dont know the rules of Colorado boxing commission but if the ref is the only that can stop the fight then Tony Weeks did his job 100% correct.
