  • Tony Weeks was dead wrong...

Found it ridiculous that Alvarado's corner wanted a stoppage of the fight and Tony Weeks decided that the corner's decision was not valid. The corner is there to guide the fighter and protect the fighter from himself. That was a bad move. So if the corner would have thrown in the towel while the round was going, he would of threw it back?

Weeks first long count for Alvarado was wrong too, he wanted to keep him in the fight even when his corner didn't. Taken together with his poor performance in the Matthysse fight, Weeks has shown himself to be a partial hometown referee.

Yes, if the rules stated only the referee can stop the fight.

You should watch Corrales/Castillo 1. He's not a hometown ref, he just wants to get the fighters point of view before he makes a final decision weather to stop a fight or not. A trainer can say anything he wants but at the end of the day, only the fighter knows what he has left. Weeks has a reputation (like Steve Smoger) of letting wars go on and that's why he got this assignment. Regardless of where he's at and who's fighting, he gives each fighter a fair shake. I think he's the best ref in the game.

Why are people still talking about this?? It's not like the ref straight out said no when mike's corner wanted to stop the fight. The round was already over when the corner wanted to wave it off, weeks just confirm it with mike, what's wrong with that? It was a championship fight.

Weeks is top notch. And yes, only the referee can stop the fight. Hell they say this before every fight, everyone should know this by now. Just because the corner wants to stop it or throws in the towel, doesn't guarantee a stoppage.

Alvarado was taking a beating and why embarrass the fighter by making him say he doesn't want to continue? I like Tony but that was wrong
