Please show some respect to the old man... He still is a role model for the sport...
... After his last fight, B-Hop challenged Ward (who was at the ring side), but Andre graciously refused...

Hopkins is a freak fighting at the level he is at his age and for so long. I have a lot of respect for his achievements in the ring. With less whining, his standing would be way higher in the eyes of the public globally. His dumb, racist "I'll never lose to a white boy" comment before doing exactly that and stinking the place out against Calzaghe also did some damage to his reputation amongst boxing and sports fans.

25 years and still fighting at world level is something special though and not likely to be done again.

Guy's a living legend. I'll not pretend I'm a fan, but I've nothing but respect for what BHop's achieved in his career. One of the very few current boxers who I've no hesitation in calling an ATG (though really that accolade should be given by the fans of the future).

Anyone can see that grandpa B-Hop is no genius speaker whatsoever (and lately he sounded quite incoherent...)
... But anyway, give the old man a break...

I did give him a break, I said I had massive respect for his achievments, but not being a good speaker doesnt give you an excuse for being a racist prick.

                  (I'm "white', you know...)

But things were a little bit complex back then (i.e. the Calzaghe fight)...

The Express reported (on Dec 23, 2007):

He (Calzaghe) said: “What he said works in my favour. Let him be the villain and I’ll probably get more American people supporting me because of what he said.

“If he wants to make it a race issue then let him, it doesn’t bother me and I just laughed at him.

“He’s just going to look ****** now when he gets beaten up by a white boy.

“It’ll be revenge for British boxing after Ricky lost to Mayweather in Vegas this month.

“It could be a pretty rough fight. But I showed against Mikkel Kessler that I can box and that’s the way to beat Hopkins. Speed will be the key again.”

Hopkins wants to turn the clash into an America versus Britain battle and wants revenge for Hatton’s fans booing the American national anthem before the Mayweather bout.

He said: “I’m going make this thing so patriotic. They booed the national anthem. Everyone’s going to say, ‘We’ve got to team up and support the American in this war’.

Oh I remember it clearly enough, but he wasnt turning it into a USA v GB issue, he made it a race issue. He should have recieved way more censure for it and as yet has never apologised. He may yet though, we'll see.
