Comments Thread For: IBF Rejects Appeal of McDonnell To Reclaim His Title

The IBF have stated that Jamie McDonnell has failed in his appeal against their decision to strip him of his IBF bantamweight title for failing to tie down his mandatory defence against Vusi Malinga, which was due by November 11. The IBF confirmed that they had maintained their decision after an appeal was heard earlier today. The decision is based on their stipulation that a fighter who wins a vacant IBF title must make their first mandatory defence within six months.

McDonnell won his belt by decisioning Julio Ceja at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium in May. The 27-year-old has since announced his intention to sever all ties with Dennis Hobson, who guided McDonnell to the world title and recently stated that he will seek to ensure that McDonnell honours their agreement. Dennis Hobson Promotions also stated that they were in the process of finalising the defence against Malinga only for McDonnell to dispute this claim earlier this evening.

So two mid-level fighters (Ranked #38th nd 40th by boxrec) who aren't even the best bantamweights in their own countries will vie for the IBF title. Jesus the alphabet boys suck. "Champion" is a meaningless word in boxing these days

This sucks balls big time. Ibf and all of the organisations are gangsters. I have followed McDonnell a long time and he has really earned that belt. Not his falt his incompetent promotor cant put togeter a defence for him. I hope Hall wins the vacant belt. That would set up a rematch with MCdonnell.

Dennis Hobson has literally pulled McDonnell's pants down in front of the entire boxing community.

Stuart Hall gets a shot at his vacant title .

Taken right out of the Frank Warren play book.

Hopefully Hearn will look after Jamie and get him back into the ring and fighting at world-level sooner, rather than later.

With a bit of luck this is will turn out to be a bit of short-term pain for some much better long term gain for Jamie. Some nice slots on Sky and some big fight cards beckon.

Hall's a very decent Euro-class battler but he'll be honest to know that Christmas has come early for him and that the IBF are stinking the whole yuletide grotto out on his and Hobson's behalf. Not good!
