Wlad would KO Toney with ease on the best day Toney ever saw. It would go something like his KO over Byrd. The Toney of today is completely washed up and should not be fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world. He is not even in the top 50, let alone the top ten contenders. Toney should retire. He is so punchy you can hardly understand him when he talks.

Boxrec rates Toney as the 76th best heavyweight in the world. That means they think there are 75 heavyweights who are better than Toney and deserve a title shot more than Toney. If Toney wants to fight Wlad he needs to beat at least one heavyweight who is rated in the top ten in the world but he can't because he is not very good anymore.

even a prime Toney at HW gets beaten by Wlad
it sounds like a copout, but it's real; Toney is way too small for Wlad
he could never land a significant punch on Wlad
and he don't have the power at HW to hurt him if he did
he's not winning on bodyshots either
hard to roll the right hand when it's coming down on you from up top
Toney might make it 12, but he gets beaten thoroughly

Dude. As much as I respect Toney he is a shell of his former self. Not only would he gas and not be able to be active Wlad would literally lay on him in every clinch and Toney would collapse and get a TKO from a broken back within 3 rounds anyway.

While most people would immediately rule this out as being a fight where Toney would be simply too small to effectively fight Wladimir, I beg to disagree. Toney has the ability get in close to fighters with a super long reach, close enough to land his shorter, almost as powerful right hand shots.

if Toney were to fight Wladimir, who would have a difficult time trying to land his jab-right hand combination with any accuracy. To be sure, Wladmir never does have much accuracy even under the best of circumstances, but in this case I can see him missing badly and having huge problems with the shorter, crisper shots from Toney.

Wladimir has been so without a big named opponent in his career, fighting mostly little known opponents that the general boxing public neither knows or cares about. Of all his opponents thus far, perhaps Ray Mercer comes the closest to being a big name star, yet even he isn’t well known to most people. With James Toney, you have a legitimate star, which can bring in boxing fans and make for a competitive fight with Wladimir. I think he would open a lot of eyes, in particular Wladimir, who find himself in a dogfight when he discovers that Toney isn’t going to show fear or fade like most Klitschko opponents

This would be a fight perhaps something along the lines of Ross Puritty vs. Wladimir, where both fighters are trading huge bombs for 10-rounds until one of them goes down. Against Puritty, Wladimir couldn’t hold up under the pressure and was eventually taken out at the start of the 11th round. Toney obviously would be looking at tapes of that fight, knowing that if he can pressure Wladimir in the same way, he would have a good chance of stopping him in a similar fashion.

Toney keeps his opponents honest, by continually pressuring them, not allowing them any rest breaks for which they can ease off and get their depleted energy reserves back. Without a rest break, Wladimir would probably sink like the Titanic, going down slowly while taking shots from the broad side.
Hard to favor Toney, Never saw him deal with that sort of size. If McCline had come off, and he hadn't blown his Achilles (killed his momentum in a lot of ways), we'd have a better idea how he might have done. If he'd got by McCline, he likely fights a Klitschko.

Modern Toney I dont think so, but its very possible with the Toney that beat Holyfield. Great extension on his punches, can reach Wlad, wins on the inside if theres a ref who stops Wlad from initiating the Cobra Clutch all the time
