Comments Thread For: Cotto's Adviser Says Martinez Talks Have Yet To Begin

Miguel Cotto's legal adviser denies that any discussions have taken place for a fight with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Last week, several interviews were conducted with Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who said that he would like to stage a fight between Cotto and Martinez on June 7th at MetLife Stadium New York. The fight would be tied in with the Puerto Rican Day Parade. Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) returned on October 5th in Orlando and scored a three round knockout of junior middleweight contender Delvin Rodriguez.

Part of me thinks Canelo's getting the fight. He's a bigger star, you have the whole Mex vs PR thing going on, and both are looking to return in march. This last addition of no talks being made really has me thinking a Canelo vs Cotto PPV might happen in late April

I was thinking the same thing. Cotto stated a few days back that he was returning in March. Who knows, we may get what we want to see!

              I doubt it.

Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) is still very interested in facing Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs). Cane

Cotto himself said that he wants to fight Canelo but later in his career.

I just think this is Cotto's adviser letting Martinez and his team know that Cotto has bigger fights and they better not be asking for too much.

Cotto and Martinez almost fought a few years ago but DiBella asked for too much and that fight fell threw.

not sure what to believe. gb and showtime say cotto is a free agent. word is cotto is tied to hbo/top rank for at least the next fight since they agreed to pay him so much for the rodriguez.

i actually think a bradley fight is best for him. good money and very winnable. even if he loses he won't take any kind of punishment.

Whoever gets this fight, I'm just looking forward to seeing Migs back in the ring again. Win or lose, the electrifying atmosphere for his fights is always off the charts. :box2:

I do hope Uncle ShishkeBob keeps him away from any slicksters, though.

There was a lot of later on talk in that article, but it may be best if Cotto strikes while the irons hot. Canelo is young coming off a loss, if they wait he'll get better, cotto will be older and if Canelo is winning, he will be more confident.

If I recall correctly, Martinez did mention that he would like a tune up before a cotto fight, so in the mean time I don't see any reason why Cotto wouldn't take this fight. Unless, he doesn't want to take a big risk before competing for a MW belt
