i pick rios to win this one. he's bigger. he's more technical (really? really.) and he's steady as a rock.

provodnikov fights in spots. he always has. when he's not fighting hard rios will be putting his heavy hands on him.

both guys have great chins and big punches. this fight needs to happen. at the very least, i want to find out who can back the other up.
Why exactly do you think he's more technical?! Frankly, I don't think we can say Rios is more technical than anyone at or near-ish the top of the sport.

      Rios stops Ruslan IMO

Rios does everything better then Ruslan and Ruslan cant get hurt to the body very easy and Rios aint no Mike who will not attack his body till its too late, Round 1 Rios would beat that body down.

Mike Hurt Ruslan several times and few times noticeably, Rios war down Ruslan by round 7 for a TKO victory.

But would love to see it happen.

He is not "way more" technically sound than almost anyone, he doesn't even know how to cut the ring off. He walks straight forward. His best game is inside, and he's pretty good at that. He's also got a pretty nice stiff jab. But don't tell me he's a thinking man in there. Not much at all. All Rios is thinking in there is "I like when I punch the other guy"

FFS did you watch him fight Abril? Yeah he's so technical that he made a grand total of 0 adjustments in 12 rounds. Okay, maybe 1.

he is, man. provodnikov is extremely sloppy, especially when he gets a man hurt. that's one of the reasons he gasses. when rios gets a man hurt he sits on his punches and finishes. if he can't finish he remains patient. ruslan swings / chops with his right hand. it's not a properly thrown punch with leverage. rios throws a short right hand as well, but his knuckles are what addresses the target, and he turns the shot over. ruslan gets off balance when he finishes his combinations. rios has slow feet, but he's got decent balance, and that comes from his technical foundation under robert garcia.

i don't want to sound like i'm talking down to you, but head back to the tape if you must. rios turns his punches over. he's been with a great trainer in robert garcia for a very long time. he has the amateur background. he does have some defensive mannerisms. provodnikov just tries to use his reflexes to get out of the way or counter. rios will get his gloves up and try and anticipate what you're going to do. he might even set you up with some traps so he knows what you're going to do before you do it.

My point isn't so much that Ruslan is noticeably more technical but that Rios isn't, and they're two fighters who are really going to just go at each other and brawl more than they're going to worry about technique. Rios gets sloppy plenty. Ruslan does too, but I think he showed quite a bit of composure hunting Alvarado down. He does get sloppy when he has someone hurt and thinks he can get them out of there, though.

All I'm saying is if you can be outboxed by a guy who isn't even a very good boxer - Alvarado - I don't think your technical skills are going to be the difference in many fights at all. Styles make fights, but Mike couldn't do the same with Provodnikov. Ruslan has better foot speed, better lateral movement, possibly an equivalent chin, and most probably better power. I think that's enough to beat Rios even if Brandon has 1% better technique. You're mentioning flaws of Ruslan's and things that Rios does well, but I've mentioned flaws in Rios that Ruslan does better. I can't help when I see Rios but see a guy who is extremely basic. I don't think Ruslan's sloppiness is much more of a problem than Rios' own.

All in all in fights like this where it's gonna be a war, anything can happen and I usually just focus on pace + conditioning and stuff like that. Ruslan does takes rests... he is not a great finisher partly because of that. He couldn't quite put the finishing touches on Tim and it might have cost him that fight....I like that he re-gathered himself against Alvarado and built his way back up to the TKO, but, to me, he had a chance to end it before that. I still mark it as an improvement but I dont think he would stop Rios. The action would be furious but I think I'd pick Bam bam. Who cares though it would be memorable
