  • Comments Thread For: Ricky Hatton Views Frampton as The Next UK Superstar

Former world champion Ricky Hatton has tipped rising star Carl Frampton for greatness after admitting he sees himself in the Irish ace.

The Belfast super-bantamweight became the first man to stop tough Frenchman Jeremy Parodi on Saturday night to earn himself a world title shot early next year.

Frampton's star appeal was made even more apparent after the Ulsterman sold out Northern Ireland's biggest indoor venue, the Odyssey Arena, with 8,500 tickets snapped up for what was only his 17th professional bout.

Hatton has now added his name to the long list of admirers, believing the man dubbed "The Jackal "has all the attributes to not only win a world title but cement his place amongst the greatest Irish fighters ever. [Click Here To Read More]

I like Ricky but just because he beat a shot Kostya Tszyu that didn't make him the best fighter in his division, Miguel Cotto was always viewed as the standout fighter at 140...

Still if Frampton achieves similar things in the ring as Hatton, I'd be very happy!

He doesnt represent Ireland you idiot... Frampton is from Tigers Bay in N.Ireland. He is British and wears a N.Ireland top on most of his workouts. If you dont understand what that means then you probably shouldn't be commenting on what he is....

We'll have to disagree, Tosh. Cotto was considered a future star but after Hatton beat Kostya (who wasn't considered shot) then Maussa he was top boy at 140 in 2005.

At that stage Cotto hadn't beaten any top fighters - but Bob Arum was grooming him (and he looked like the part) as a future superstar.

As for D-Mize. I'm from London & rooting for Frampton. Saying that I cheer on any fighters from the British Isles. I don't let politics from before my birth decide whether I can root for a fellow Celt or not.

He has represented Ireland he has never represented Britain at anything. Take a look at that big mural outside the midland with him in IRISH amateur boxing vest on.

He was the Irish champion and in his own words "The Irish love a drink and a fight, there will be 8000 of them cheering me on in the odyssey on Saturday" now I'm assuming he wasn't saying that all his fans where from the Republic. I don't know what a Northern Ireland top means, he's never wore it in training, he supports NI but so what? Make up your mind, is Northern Ireland an all inclusive team or is it a team to state your Britishness?

The lad tries to stay away from the sectarian ****e that has constantly divided our city and the need for its bigoted patrons to label everything and everyone a prod or a taig despite the wishes of the person you're trying to label.

The fact is, he's a lad from tigers bay who has fought for Ireland, for Irish belts, he is marrying a catholic, his best man is a catholic and wants absolutely nothing to do with your attempts to label him anything. So please stop calling people an idiot. Hope that helps

I'm the same but he's made it clear, at least from my POV, that he's Irish and that's the colours he's flying. That'll effect him as a 'British' fighter, Sky would rather a lad from Manchester.

The problem comes in the form of people like Daveros who'll claim Frampton as British to make our boxers look better. He's as Irish as Guinness, I don't care if some colonial ****s cut the country up.
