Joshua Clottey, Now The Mandatory To Margarito

DiBella Entertainment’s welterweight sensation Joshua Clottey (28-1, 18 KO’s) is capable of beating any welterweight in the world. Clottey has reeled off nine consecutive victories and has his eyes set on a world championship. This past Saturday night, Michael Jennings, #1 ranked contender by the World Boxing Organization and Antonio Margarito’s mandatory challenger suffered his first career loss to Young Muttley for the British Welterweight Title. The loss by Jennings leaves WBO #2 ranked welterweight Walter Matthysee as the mandatory for Margarito. The very worthy Matthysee is unavailable due to a fight he has scheduled in Argentina. That leaves Joshua Clottey as the leading available contender for Margarito’s mandatory challenge for the WBO World Welterweight Championship. [details]

I think Clottey will be competitive, but given his lack of quality names on his ledger, an upset is entirely unlikely. I consider Margarito a potential P4P fighter, and it's not even a remote possibility that a guy who I watch all the time on Dibella boxing will pull this upset. I am somewhat partial to him for whatever reason, and will be rooting for him. He really got ****ed when he was disqualified in England, so he should be undefeated. But other than that, there is no reason that a guy with 29 fights shouldn't have any recognizable names on his record. I like the drum **** the crowd does for him, kinda like Quartey.

Clottey is tough enough, but I think Margarito will win this one, hands down.

Margarito's is in for a surprise against Clottey. He has good hand speed & a wicked double left hook to the body & then to the head. I can see Clottey beating Margarito if this fight happens.

You're thinking of his brother Emmanuel Clottey, who lost to Bojado on the Gatti-Branco undercard.

most folks with decent speed and power have a shot against margarito early because he is so slow to get going in the first couple of rounds. after that it gets a lot more difficult

This will be a really tough fight for Margarito. Clottey has a good chin, and he has solid boxing skills. He may actually make Margarito look bad. Can't wait to see it.
