Ruslan Provodnikov’s world title win over Mike Alvarado on Saturday night opens up plenty of doors for him, making him a more marketable name at junior welterweight (the division in which he won his title), as well as at welterweight (the division at which he went to war with Timothy Bradley earlier this year).

Yet the Banner Promotions fighter shouldn’t be expected to appear on Showtime against Golden Boy’s crop of 140- and 147-pound stars, according to Banner’s Artie Pelullo.

Ruslan made $600K in his fight with Alvarado. Not bad for a newly christened star in boxing, compared to say, Mares, whose biggest purse so far was his undercard fight in the Mayweather/Guerrero fight which was $300K.

Who would want to go to Showtime if he's already making the kind of money he's making even familiar names like Lara and others don't make.

Provodnikov does fight in the two weight classes that are demanding the most attention. Rigo's biggest purse came against one of the top faces in boxing, it's unlikely that he'll receive that same purse for Agbeko.

i think it might be a mistake to align yourself with one network when you dont have to. taking such a hard line he could miss out on some big money fights with gbp fighters on showtime. i understand being loyal but they should keep there options open imo he is not going to be this hot of a commodity for very long and really moght need those big name jr welters at gbp

Ward, Sergio, Mikey, and Golovkin have committed to HBO. Ruslan is just riding the wave.

I don't like this news but ultimately it's about where Provodnikov can make the most money.

The Russian dude is a Roach fighter, so he will stay fighting guys that could cause Manny a threat, then Manny will swoop In to eat his left overs. Pacquiao vs Bradley should be the next logical fight if Manny wins, but Arum will prop up the Russian dude in front of Bradley to protect Manny again.
