Yeah this makes sense for both. BHops is in serious danger of becoming an irrelevance with the young turks taking over on HBO. At least Shumenov gives him a beltholder to fight (assuming Beibut makes in past the mighty Tammy Kovacs).
Oh well, nice to see Beibut finally found his lost glove. There had been rumours he was so distraught at losing his lucky pair he might never step in the ring again.
Thing is, Shumenov ain't bad, he just...well, ain't that good either. Though Campillo I possibly shoulda gone in his favour, he's done little else of note. Apparently he's independently wealthy too, so GBP must be offering him some serious $s as a lure (unless he genuinely believes he could beat BHop, and is looking for the glory).
Right now though, BHop is no longer in the spotlight at LHW, in fact the center of gravity is in Canada of all places with the talented GYM stable and Bute, Kovalev seemingly going where the action is and newly signed EE standouts Beterbiev (with GYM) and Mekhontsev (with TR) also possibly emerging alongside GYM prospect Alvarez.
Dawson ain't outta the picture really either (necessarily) and even the deeply flawed Cloud could still be part of the mix.
Curiously in about 9 months LHWs gone from one of the most ignored to one of the hottest divisions in the sport for my money. If nothing else, Beibut putting his title back into circulation has to be a good thing.
