Comments Thread For: A Bradley-Pacquiao rematch: It’s as simple as new math

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - There are times when it’s really easy to hate boxing.

Case in point was Saturday night and the immediate aftermath, in which some tossed up roadblocks to the idea that Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao shouldn’t automatically be paired up in a few months time for a rematch of their ugly 2012 decision.

Yes, I know Manny still has a fight in November with an opponent – Brandon Rios – who’s shown some ability to defeat foes with a significant skill set. But let’s face reality; if even a post-apocalyptic-KO version of Pac Man can’t handle a guy like Rios, he’s through as a relevant discussion piece.

There, I said it. Sorry Manila. No hard feelings.

Anyway, assuming he indeed takes care of comeback matters and does dispatch the former lightweight champ back to the Carson, Calif. level from whence he came, it seems the follow-up diagram for Pacquiao should be as simple as a geometric equation.

If Pacquiao is A and WBO welter champ Timothy Bradley is B, then their paths should intersect precisely at point C – which, in this case, is sometime next spring in a tax bracket locale of Manny’s choice.

But lest we think I’m giving Bradley too much credit for his “win” over Pacquiao last spring, that’s not at all the case. In fact, it’d be no different for my purposes had that fight never occurred. [Click Here To Read More]

This guy's writing is terrible, but the rematch really is the most practical course.

It's been reported that if Manny wins his fight with Rios then he becomes the mandatory challenger for the WBO Welterweight Championship, so this fight will be easy to make. Marquez can defend his belt against the Alvarado/Provodnikov winner.

And, please, what belt Marquez should defend?

On the WBO website, Mike Alvarado is shown as the LWW belt holder...

              But things seem more complicated:

On April 14, 2012, Marquez defeated Ukrainian contender Serhiy Fedchenko via unanimous decision to capture the Interim WBO Light Welterweight title. A clear margin by scores of: 119-109, 118-110, 118-110. The WBO has since updated him to full status WBO Champion.

On March 30, 2013, Alvarado beat Brandon Rios to win the interim WBO light welterweight title...

Now, this Saturday (October 19, 2013), Mike Alvarado is scheduled to fight Ruslan Provodnikov for the WBO light welterweight title...

Therefore I still don't know what belt Marquez would defend... Does WBO grants "super", "gold", "platinum" or "diamond" belts? I really don't know...

I got a feeling if Marquez continues to fight and Pac wins it would be the next big TR WW fight. Marquez did not look shot and Pac has the revenge factor

... In case Arum can sell it forever, they'll fight forever... But they should move at the Macau venue -- co-featuring on Zou Shiming card...

Poorly written article, but it reflects most of what I feel regarding Pac/Bradley
