  • Why does the US have a 10 sec counter?

I have noticed that fighters try to steal a round with flurries after 10 secs. It's not a bad thing to encourage activity but too many wait til then it seems.

Also it would be bad ass if fans started to do a 10 sec countdown each round.

i think it's of great benefit to the referee. it allows him to get close enough to stop them from fighting immediately as the round ends.

if a pro fighter was throwing punches at my head, i doubt i'd even hear the thing.

Exactly, in a midst of violence both fighters will most likey have tunnel vision. So the ref needs a time cushion to prep to stop the action without any fouls taking place.

Also it is used to up the pace or make someone go for broke but I think a fighters corner can make that be known.

UFC fighters do the same. They wait till the last minute to go for a takedown. Apparently that automatically gives you the round even if you haven't done jack ****.

to give the fat yanks time to turn their scooters on and scoot to the toilet to drop a couple of pounds in order to make room for the meal they'll eat the next round.

            *source* I'm a yank.

I'm pretty sure all countries have the 10 sec warning!

It's for the referee and also for the corners. The 10 second warning lets the corner know it's time to get the stool and bucket ready.

The UK doesn't have a 10 sec warning

I haven't paid much attention elsewhere yet
