LAS VEGAS - Orlando Cruz lost his bid for a piece of the featherweight title Saturday night, getting stopped in the seventh round by veteran Orlando Salido. Cruz, the first openly gay active fighter, was outclassed much of the fight by Salido, who landed the heavier punches throughout before knocking Cruz down with a right hand to the head in the seventh. Cruz was on his knees and couldn't get up as he was counted out at 1:05 of the round. Salido, who lost the 126-pound title in his last fight, won it back with an impressive performance against Cruz, a former Olympian from Puerto Rico who last year came out as gay. He took the fight to Cruz and was ahead 59-55 on two scorecards and 58-56 on a third going into the seventh round.

The writing was on the wall quite early in this one. Cruz didn't have enough power to keep Salido off him. His movement was good but he couldn't make Salido pay. Salido vs. Lomachenko should be a fun fight.

Not true, Cruz has been fighting at the weight for well over 6 years . Both weighed in at 126lb's for the WBO featherweight world title and Cruz was rated the number 1 contender in the world by the WBO while Salido was the number 3 contender, no excuses please.

There is not a limit on height and arm reach as long as Salido and Cruz weighed in at 126lb's thats all that mattered they was both ordered to fight by the WBO they did not match eachover up they was ordered by a governing body to fight for a vacant title so do not blame Salido of cherry picking!
