Comments Thread For: Photos: Joseph Parker Blasts Out Afa Tatupu in Two

The Trusts Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand - Up and coming young heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker (7-0, 6KOs) sustained a serious cut to his left eye but still disposed of NZ heavyweight champion Afa Tatupu (9-5) early in the second round of their NZ heavyweight bout tonight.

Parker didn't stick to his game plan of fighting like a big man but instead entered into a Samoan brawl with Tatupu, who took a pounding, but also tagged Parker above his left eye.

The injury so bad the ringside doctor almost called off the fight. Bleeding everywhere, trainer Kevin Barry later said the doctor gave Parker one round to get the job done because of the severity of the eye injury, a real shocker which may take some time to heal. [Click Here To Read More]

I think thats a good idea for Parker. Theres nothing for him other than knockout losses against Tua and Cameron. Unless he can drag Sonny Bill into the ring and **** up his world.

Much better potential for growth in the UK.

I think Joseph needs to make a big decision, whether he wants to be a New Zealand celebrity and fight other famous New Zealand boxers, e.g. Shane Cameron, SBW among others, or whether he really wants to make a go of this and challenge for a world title. For the latter to occur, I think he should move to the UK or States to a bigger market and where the talent pool is better and a higher level of training. I hope he takes the second option, it would be great to have someone on the world stage to cheer for in New Zealand, and he really has the potential to be a contender
