Roach: "with me in his corner, Cotto would’ve beat Margarito in their first match"

Trainer Freddie Roach say Miguel Cotto (38-,4 31Kos) is ready to face and beat Antonio Margarito even with loaded gloves. A few years back, Margarito fought off a tough effort from Cotto to win on a late TKO. Margarito was later exposed to have had plaster of Paris found in his hand wraps which gave him an unfair advantage. But Last Saturday night in Orlando, Cotto returned with Roach in his corner and blasted out Delvin Rodriguez in three rounds.
“Miguel is ready to go against Margarito even with plaster of paris in his hands. Hes in the Best shape of his career. He returned to the style he needed to go back to. And as Miguel said last week, if I had been in his corner for the first fight against Margarito he would have won. He would have had no trouble taking blows from a block of cement straight to his face because the advice I would have gave him would have changed the elements of the fight” Roach told Javier Maymi.

I don't know if what Roach said is true but I've always wondered what would have happened if Cotto hadn't fought Margs on the back foot and instead stood to to toe like against Mosley. To me a Prime Cotto was better in the pocket slip shots and timing counter rights and ripping left hooks to the body. Cotto through a lot in the first 6 rounds against Margarito but it was all on the back foot and all to the head. Pacquiao hurt Margarito to the body I would of liked to see Cotto try.

Get Margarito a come back fight pronto, then set up the rubber match. Tony has Roach consent to use plaster

Roach seems to be high on Cotto right now. He sees a chance to beat a top notch fighter like Sergio and Alvarez so that has him energized.

I don't know what or how he would say it now, but I remember watching an interview and he was asked if Cotto, trained by him, had a chance against a guy like Pacquiao and Roach said that Pacquiao would always win.

                Wrong.

He would've won if Nasim Richardson was his trainer.

You would think they just went up in weight and spanked GGG by all these comments.

Cotto would have sparked Rodriguez no matter who he had in his corner!
