This used to be a great art in boxing in 70s-90s. The last fighter I seen that actually knew how to do this was Jose Luis Castillo and thats from years of training with JCC. I know Castillo fought into the the 2000s but he grew as a 90s fighter. Slower but heavy handed fighters nowadays just walk straight at their opponents. This is why I would never give any fighter a chance against Floyd...
What happened to boxers cutting of the ring?

Good question.
It's hilarious seeing a fighter plod after his opponent looking confused while getting beat up. Donaire, Gesta, Guerrero, etc. come to mind. And what's even funnier is the guy that actually has skills and works on perfecting his craft gets the blame for the fight being boring.
GGG, Mares and Santa Cruz do a pretty good job of it though.Comment

I've noticed this, perhaps it's due to referees becoming overzealous? I noticed this weekend that Quigg did a pretty decent job of cutting off the ring against a pretty good mover (if not much else) in Salinas.
Santa Cruz and GGG strike me as the best at it, although they've neither fought a top-level mover quite yet.Comment
