  • What if weigh ins were a week in advance?

I was talking to one of my buddies who knows nothing about boxing, we're chopping it up about cutting weight and how it can be a huge detriment if you don't do it right, but he added in "its good though right cause don't boxers weigh in a week before the fight?" I laughed and told him no.

But it made me wonder. What if weigh ins were actually a week in advance, allowing fighters way more time to replenish their bodies after a weight cut?

What division would Chavez, Rios, Broner fight in?

    Discuss?

You wouldn't want to let JCC jr loose on the tacos for a week before a fight ffs. He wouldn't fit between the ropes.

JCC Jr would come into fight night at 200 pounds as would Rios lol.

All the problems of one fighter outweighing his opponent by as much as 18 pounds in the same weight class started when they went from same day weigh ins to weighing in the day before. It was a terrible idea but boxing seems to be stuck with it. Boxing would be far better off to return to weighing in 8 hours before the fight instead of 32 hours before the fight. Having the weigh in a week before the fight would only make a bad situation far worse.

I agree. I don't think weigh ins should go back to 8 hours though, however.

Um first of all that is a ******ed question and goes against the whole point of a weigh in. But if that was the case then the entire strategy of the weight stuff in boxing would change. People would starve just to hit the low weight point then quickly build muscle and gain weight for a week nonstop to come in at the highest weight possible to outweigh their opponents by as much as possible

all I know is that Chad Dawson would've beaten Andre Ward if that was the case
