I think that everybody should participate in this thread : Everybody who replies should make it a point to watch at least one clinchfest and count the clinches that take place throughout.

Having said that, I've just booted up Hopkins/Wright on youtube and so far we have 9 clinches in the first round, with 5 semi-clinches wherein on participant grabbed the other briefly, but relinquished the clinch before the referee had to get involved.

I'll update the clinch count periodically.

This is hilarious. Daggum might get off my ignore list for this.

I will do the next Alexander fight. I can't stand the way that guy fights. Mostly the way he pulls punches and shoe shines, but the clinching just tops it off.

Hopkins is warned by referee Robert Byrd for clinching in the opening of round 2, but doesn't let it stop him from going on to accumulate 11 clinches in the second round.

2 rounds down, 20 clinches thus far, plus a few semi-clinches.

Round 4 sees a drop in the excitement as for some unknown reason the fighters decide to trade punches instead.

7 clinches this round while Harold Lederman complains about how boring this fight is, but Max Kellerman puts him in his place by pointing out the "subtle skillz" taking place from Hopkins's headbutt/clinch combos.

At one point late in the round Wright is throwing punches and wants to fight Hopkins like a p*ssy, but Bernard wisely chases him across the ring, literally performing a running clinch and getting the crowd back into the fight.

Amazing part was when clinchko let his hands go for the last ten seconds and still managed to hit Povetkin after the bell ..only to still land another clinch

Round 5 is pretty much a carbon copy of round 4 : Winky Wright is being a total **** and boring us all to death by throwing punches while Hopkins wisely runs away from them, but only manages to initiate 6 total clinches this round.

At one point near the 30 second mark Hopkins has Wright in a clinch and Winky puts his arms out in frustration to show the referee that he's not the one doing all of the clinching.

Not sure why he did that. Everybody knows that clinching not only demonstrates your "mad skillz", but it's also a crucial judging criteria.

Round 6 sees a dramatic step-up in the action, as Hopkins is able to come up with 11 clinches.

Wright's legs look tired already, and this is shaping up to be one of the greatest wrestling matches I've seen since the Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels ironman match at Wrestlemania 12.

That's 52 clinches thus far for those of you keeping score.
