Don't think he had to try very hard.“I spent quite a sum to get into the arena as a casual fan of the sport with the intent to go unrecognized with the fans”, said ex-WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog afterwardsComment

No, lies! Only jealous Americans and racists think he's boring!“I was totally unimpressed with the main event. For me Grigory Drozd delivered a much better fight and pleased the fans with his extraordinary effort. As for Wladimir, I understand now, why his fights are being aired so rarely overseas”.
Whoa. Strong words from Dmitry Pirog.Comment

There's an interesting proverb in both Russian and Polish (as well as in some other local languages) that th point of view depends on the point of seat. Means, that the fight can be felt very differently from various sitting positions. I was seated pretty uncomfortably at the arena as was a majority of journalists. From my sitting point, I had it 114-109. I won't say I wasn't biased - maybe I was. But there were some who had it 113-110, some who had it 116-107 and, f.e., Anson Wainwright, whom I met at the arena was dead sure it was 119-104.
On reviewing the fight on tape I had it 116-109 - I suppose it's quite an accurate score, and I don't see the fight being scored as 119-104 - too harsh of a card in my mind.Comment

Btw, Pulev was in the venue as was Alexander Dimitrenko. Pulev is a decent fighter, but I just cannot imagine him beating Wladimir. I can't imagine Jennings doing it eaither but for me Pulev is tailor-made for the K2 brothers. He isn't very fast, doesn't possess a one-punch knockout power and he is smaller. He is like Povetkin with less fire power but maybe with a bit better skill set. No, I think it will be a beatdown. And, yes, he isn't young enough (surely, by heavyweight standards he is just a youngster but c'mon...).Comment

Btw, I agree on that. On reviewing the tape 116-107 or 117-106 would have been easier to accept but, as I've already written, sitting at about 50-70 metres (bias), looking with one eye at the roof monitor and with one eye - to the ring... Well, I decided to put it this way for two reasons: 1). 114-109 doesn't change anything; 2). It was true at the time of writing so it's an honest opinion that somehow emphasizes the point I have put forward in the story.Comment

WK dominated the fight but...
I never seen a more physically imposing figure, look so scared in the ring... Punch/Hold, jab jab/hold, stiff arm/punch, hug/lean, hug/lean repeat... He's generally 25lbs plus and 7 inches taller than his opponents but fights like he's scared... If I were a fighter, I would never fight him... I'd just simply state not wanting to hug another boxer for twelve rounds... My goodness, we watched the fight again and he literally hugged him over 50 times and on three occasions lept his gigantic frame completely off the ground to grab and hug him...Comment
