They don't mean anything.

They have Valuev at number 2 also. Did you think they were credible before?

I think this means that boxrec has to make it clearer where their rankings come from. If I remember right the link to find out all the details is pretty hard to find.

Unless they like people posting on every boxing forum about how much they suck...

For better or worse, Boxrec have some formula for rating the fighters and what comes out of the equation is whatever it is, with no emotional considerations.

Gatti just beat an unbeaten fighter with a good record, so he jumps up the rankings. Clearly, Boxrec put a lot of emphasis on recent performances and the fighters record, perhaps without factoring in the level of opposition to achieve the record.

This happens all the time with Boxrec. One obvious exception is PBF who has fought nobodies for 3 years and is still rated #1 at Boxrec. He may deserve to be #1, but I don't think they are rating PBF by the same criteria as they use for everyone else. Otherwise, he wouldn't be in their top 5.

Why is everyone on Margaritos nutz the guy hasnt fought anyone but everyone puts him on this pedestal like he could beat anyone they put in front of him. Gatti would beat his ass and so would Baldozar.

Boxrec works on a p4p basis when dealing with rankings. Note how Ezzard Charles is the top HW. To p4p HW? maybe, but he's not the top heavyweight. Gatti started his career at 130 which would make boxrec rank him like this.

Its simply their computer's statistical calculation of numbers.
