Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach: Miguel Cotto Must Go Back To Body Attack

More than anything other than winning Saturday night, Freddie Roach wants Miguel Cotto to revert to being one the most brutal body punchers in boxing.

Roach considers Cotto’s lack of a body attack as one of the primary reasons he lost a unanimous decision to Austin Trout in his last fight 10 months ago at Madison Square Garden. The International Boxing Hall of Fame trainer expects Cotto to heed his advice because Roach emphasized the importance of slowing down Delvin Rodriguez with body shots throughout their first training camp together at Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Calif. In order to get to the body one has to overcome the jabs -- and Trout has a stiff jab.

Cotto gave up his body punching tendencies long before Trout even against Floyd he could of used more mid-section work instead of missing up top, lucky for him Delvin can be brought into a closer range fight which will give Cotto opportunities to follow that plan

Cotto was brutalized by Margo and Pacman

        that made him shop worn

then to beat it all the little chubby guy goes up in weight ?????

Then he falls prey to JR, who took advantage of that extra weight that slowed him down

        NOW

Cotto has a good trainer that thinks or hopes he can bring back WHICH COTTO???

IF Roach thinks he can do this , then he will have to prove it against a spoiler Delvin Rod. Delvin has nothing to lose and all to gain, if he stays on the outside with strong shots he will win.

Cotto would have beaten Margarito easy had he attacked the body in their first matchup. Like someone said before, he gave up the body attack long before Trout.

            Body Attack

Roach is 100% right. Slugging to the body is one thing, an Attack to the body is another. Cotto should have never stopped his body attack. It works EVERY TIME. Remember how it effected Shame Mosley?.

Changing history again huh? Too bad Roach himself admitted that they wanted to fight Cotto because he didn't look like the same fighter. He looked "shopworn" before Pac ever got to him, otherwise that fight would've never been made.

Not to mention, Cotto himself said that he lost confidence after the Margarito fight. Confidence that he never fully regained until after he beat Margarito........yes, that correct, right before the fight w/ Jr.

I like cotto alot but his days as an elite fighter are done. His name has some tread still so why not make some coin. Delvin comp is where he should stay

Cotto needs to stop being lazy and move back down to 147.
A lot of people are under estimating Delvin and even though I love Cotto but I know Delvin is going to be a tough fight for Cotto and may even pull the upset.
