Comments Thread For: Rubio Eyes Spada For December, WBC Interim Belt

Negotiations are getting more intense for Marco Antonio Rubio (58-6-1, 50KOs) to face Domenico Spada (38-4, 19KOs) for the WBC interim-middleweight championship. Rubio had previously been ordered by the World Boxing Council to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the title, but Chavez, who failed to make 168-pounds for last Saturday's fight with Bryan Vera, is not likely to ever return to the middleweight division. Sergio Martinez has the full title and is out with several injuries until the first half of 2014. Rubio vs. Spada will probably take place on a date in December. Rubio wants to avoid having the fight push over to next year.

I thought Rubio was fighting Spada for the belt originally since he's the number 2.
Did Spada's fight with Lee get cancelled?

Horrible. Spada has already lost two undeserved title shots and has beaten nobody since losing to Barker two years ago. Why don't they just hand Rubio the belt?

That is what they plan on doing, which is why Spada is his opponent.
