Comments Thread For: Hearn: Barker-Sturm Clash Has Immediate Rematch

Darren Barker will make the first defence of his IBF middleweight title against Felix Sturm in Germany on December 7.

Barker won the belt with a courageous points win over Daniel Geale in August and has agreed to travel to Sturm's home patch in Stuttgart to defend his belt.

Sturm has proved notoriously hard to beat on his own territory as he held Martin Murray to a draw and claimed a controversial points win over Matthew Macklin on their trips to Germany.

But promoter Eddie Hearn has added an option for an immediate March rematch in London if Barker is beaten. [Click Here To Read More]

tremendous strategy for avoiding the golovkin fight. i don't blame them, frankly. both men would be beat up badly against golovkin.

Barker doesn't even want to fight Sturm, he has to since the fight has been ordered by the IBF.

In Europe, then... Like Martin Murray, you mean... And who the other one would be? Golovkin?

Barker didn't want Sturm... Namely who did he want? Quillin? Soliman? Just who?

I'm pretty sure he does. Felix Sturm would be the biggest payday out of the middleweights because the IBF requires the purse to be a 75/25 split in favor of the champion. I don't think a Golovkin fight or even a Martinez fight would be close.

EDIT: I might be wrong. It think it's only 75/25 if it goes to purse bid, which it didn't.
