I'm well aware of this, but I'm talking specifically about this match-up.
ESPN Deportes interviewed fans coming out of the Arena the night of this fight, mostly Mexicans, and most said Chavez lost, and weren't happy with the decision.
Now, obviously, that's mostly anecdotal evidence, and nothing concrete. But I don't think many of the people who would've supported a Chavez-Vera I (if it had been on PPV), will support a Chavez-Vera II on PPV.Comment

Whatever popularity hit he got from this fight, he's still a ton more popular today than when he was fighting on Latin Fury PPVS. And those got upwards of 90k buys.
