Comments Thread For: Pelullo: HBO Wants Vera Back; Martinez/Golovkin Possible

CARSON, Calif. -- After the unpopular verdict was announced Saturday, Banner Promotions president and owner Artie Pelullo still was in disbelief.

He, like most of the press ringside for the HBO bout, thought Bryan Vera deserved the decision over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. And though his fighter didn't officially gain the victory, Pelullo says HBO is treating it like a win for Vera.

Indeed he did win the fight. Can't wait to see Vera back in the ring. The sport needs more fighters like him.

And as a reward for handling himself so well, he gets to fight Golovkin!
I'm sure he'd take it without any hesitation, he seems like that kind of guy. But really, I think they should give him a crack at Martinez. God know's he's earned it.

I'd like 2 c Bryan again, but it won't b vs the drug-using Jr...he deserves another tv spot & decent $$...if Sergio fights GGG it will b his last fight...

Wow! Vera gets to come back but Rigondeaux is still on the shelf at HBO?

Now that I think about it the way Chavez Jr was staggering him with one-shots he'll have ggg looking like a superhero when he ko's him. I can already hear Jim and Roy hyping Vera up......

Well, Vera did "so great" in this last one only because Jr. was performing so poorly...

I'd rather see Martinez and GGG fighting other champs or each other.

I could see either fight happening.

I think it depends on who Martinez fights in his come back fight. Martinez wants Cotto and Cotto has talked about wanting to win a title at middleweight so who knows.

Cotto vs Canelo seems more likely Cotto did say he wanted to end his career with Top Rank so that basically kills a Canelo fight and I'm not sure how they'd split the purse.

Canelo would want to be the A side and get the lion's share but I doubt Cotto will be the B side and get a smaller cut. with Martinez Cotto is clearly the A side and will get whatever he wants.

so I could see Martinez fighting Vera if the Cotto fight doesn't happen.

as for GGG, if he beats Stevens he'll have at least 2 or 3 fights before Martinez comes back from his injury and has 1 come back fight, so GGG would fight Vera to keep busy until Martinez is ready.

I doubt Vera beats either but it's interesting.
