  • Comments Thread For: Whisper it, Mayweather vs. Khan is a Viable Option

News of the thus far unsubstantiated rumour that Floyd Mayweather could meet Amir Khan in Las Vegas on May 3 (at whatever weight Mayweather chooses and for whatever title he wants) led to the usual gnashing of teeth over what is perceived as a cynical match-up — and we all know that boxing and cynicism never jive, there is no place for it in this glorious sport — as well as cries that it would be yet another soft touch for Mayweather. Especially as the 45-0 (26) fighter is coming off a wide and handy win over Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, the guy who was lauded in some quarters, i.e. the online and print equivalents of mental wards, as the man who would finally end the American’s reign, rather than a case of Mayweather versus Carlos Baldomir redux.

Why not. Money will thrash whoever gets tossed in there against him anyway. I don't mind Khan seeing getting slapped around again. Plus, I think it could entertaining for three to five rounds.

If Khan can beat Alexander then he deserves a shot. I just don't think he can. But in order for this fight to sell it will have to be at Wembley.

I hate that fans support fights just because it will make a fighter they like money. We should all care about who deserves the fight, not who makes the most money.

Very true and I can't think of anyone more deserving than Khan in the welterweight division, outside of Bradley, Pac or JMM.....IF he beats Devon Alexander.

Lol. Now GBP got the media trying to justify this BS.

Timing negates hand speed. Virgil Hunter even admitted that. Khan offers nothing but fans. This a boxing exhibition.

What stands as "rumours' on this website, is already highly promoted by others.
But it is not about a venue in Las Vegas, it's about the Wembley Stadium in London instead. It doesn't seem too realistic though, because May 3rd in London would be quite cold (even if the stadium has a roof).

We agree that this would be a terrible fight. So I get that posters shouldn't support a fight just because their favorite fighter gets a huge check.

But then posters also need to stop limiting their scope of who deserves a floyd fight to only those who they think can beat floyd by KO. A guy could deserve a floyd fight-like Tim Bradley-but because posters don't think he can KO floyd they decide naw its gotta be a MW.

Any extreme position, on either side, is problematic.

Many "specialists" think that Khan's speed corroborated with Floyd's lack in KO power would result in a competitive match-up.
