People need to understand that sometimes a great fighther needs a great trainer to stay at that level. I thought Diaz was good but Roach mentioned something I saw in a Youtube video that simply made sense. He didn't ask Cotto because he said it isn't his busness but wondered who or how he trained for his fight with Trout. In a different video he said he overtrained and I totally believe that, at the end of the day Diaz worked with young guys the majority of his career. You simply can't push a guy who has been through the ringer like Cotto that much in camp. Not to mention Roach and George St. Pierre's strength and conditioning coach are now in Cotto's corner I'm sure they know some "legal roids" that will get Cotto back in shape.

I was one of the guys praising Diaz and I'm not saying he's a bad trainer but perhaps just inexperienced at the pro level. It's just different than amateurs and while Cuba has a surprisingly solid education program it simply isn't nearly as the US/Canada/Germany or any other big independent nation.

Yes Diaz is a very dedicated/complex trainer with all hise ball tossings, rope climbing etc.
But sometimes the old fashioned simple ways work best especially a man of cotto who has been in not only wars BUT brutal ones with marg, pac etc

Cotto is going to have clottey flashbacks because I think he is going to bleed in this one fighting Delvin who always cuts guys with punches, and he will be throwing those rapid fire combos, but I think Cottos experience should get him the nod, and hopefully we get to see a nice steady offensive attack like the old days.

I agree with your post for the exception of Canada having a solid educational program for boxing. No offense to the Canadians on here but they have some of the worst boxing around.

this fight's nothing but a measuring stick 2 c how much Cotto has left...any good trainer will do, he doesn't have 2 pay the big $$ 4 him, IMO...

But Cotto's next fight should be easy because his opposition for this fight is a B level ESPN fighter.

Best of luck to both and may the best man win.
Ruslan was a B level espn fighter and he kicked Bradley's ass on a tough fight. Just saying......

I thought cotto looked good working with diaz in the floyd fight. I'm surprised he didn't stay with him.

And then he looked terrible. Gassed, bloated and unable to sustain any forward momentum. He left his fight back in the gym.

Diaz is a nice trainer, but he trained Cotto like it was the amateurs.

And this "whoring" to trainers thing is so ******.

His uncle and him split - family falling out

He went to his spit bucket holder for his biggest fight - Got destroyed

Went to Manny - picked up what he did

Then went to Diaz - and honestly - the success they had was suspect

                    Now he's w/ Roach

This whole trainer jumping is vastly overstated. People are sounding like f---tards. I will admit, I would have loved to see Manny in with Cotto the whole time until his untimely passing (R.I.P.).

So I don't know why it's getting harped on like a bunch of schoolgirls. His 'second' trainer had no qualifications to be in there.

I think it could be a good combo, Cotto is already a made fighter from a boxing sense and his boxing mind is already set. Roach will be good for him because he will keep it simple for Cotto and push him in camp which I feel is very good for Cotto.

The only downside I see is this won't help Cotto's defense much which is decent but could use some tightening, although if his conditioning improves that could help him all around down the stretch in fights.
