Comments Thread For: Hughie Fury Picks Up His Tenth Victory of 2013

Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (10-0, 6KOs), in his tenth fight of the year, won a six round decision over Dorian Darch (7-2) at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London. The sole score was 60-54. Fury, the cousin of heavyweight contender Tyson Fury, turned pro in March and since then has fought anywhere and everwhere - winning fights in Canada, Romania, New York City, Ireland and of course the various parts of the UK. Hughie Fury, however, is not the sharpest tool in the box, and should probably not be allowed to talk to interviewers.

In an article from a few months back (i'll try to dig it out - something like 'Hughie Fury to fight 20 times by mid 2014) - he lets slip that his team is actually paying for a lot of these fights themselves - now I ain't sure whether this is standard practice, but to me it hardly seems to lend credibility to his record. I wonder if they pay them before or after they've lost?

Hughie Fury needs to step it up fast if he plans on breaking Mike's record like he said he would.

And stop fighting these fighters with 5-10-2 records if you want to call yourself the best.

Hughie Fury just turned 19 and is already 10-0.

The plan is for him to remain active and fight a better quality of journeymen during the next 6 months. The 7-1 boxer he defeated today was better than his previous opponents.

Hughie is very talented and has excellent potential. Considering he lacks amateur experience, however, they need to keep him active and be careful not to move him up too fast.

He wasn't too bad at amateur considering he won the 2012 Youth World Amateur Boxing Championships before turning pro the following year

Yes, but his amateur career was brief.

Hughie Fury is not going to take away Mike Tyson's mark as youngest heavyweight champ but he has genuine ability and the size to mix with today's big guys. Darch was a fair test at this stage and I like the way Hughie is being brought along.
