Middleweight Matt Korobov fought to an eight round unanimous decision over fringe contender Grady Brewer. The southpaw Korobov (21-0, 12 KOs) was in control throughout the entire fight, punishing Brewer with lead left hands or counter right hooks to the head. Brewer (30-17, 16 KOs) was not able to mount any significant offense, holding Korobov when both were on the inside. Korobov dropped Brewer in the fifth round with a barrage of punches, although Brewer thought it was a slip. The action at times was sloppy, but Korobov landed the more effective punches during those exchanges. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Korobov, 80-71, 80-71, and 79-72. Korobov has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Gennady Golovkin, should Golovkin beat Curtis Stevens on November 2nd.
