"It is the first career defeat for Canelo. I had never seen him lose and the truth is it hurts. It saddens the entire team because we worked hard for the victory. But we also walked away with our heads held high, because there is no shame in losing to the best pound for pound fighter like Floyd. Mayweather did what he does best, he boxed and won rounds. He made a great fight. Canelo will keep going and he's going to give [the fans] many nights of glory. For now we are going to rest and we will discuss the fight and analyze what our flaws were. We'll try to make the best of these mistakes and this will provide us with experience for the future. But I assure you that Canelo will come back stronger, because he is a great champion," said Reynoso.
Trainer Chepo Reynoso is proud of former champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KOs), who suffered his first career defeat on Saturday night when he was out

I don't really know how anyone can argue that Mayweather did not school Canelo to be honest. The fight made his limitations as a fighter apparent, he learned what is effective against him and what is not effective against certain fighters.

I think we're going through the normal phase of a Mayweather fight.
Stage 1: Claim Mayweather will never fight a particular fighter.
Stage 2: Claim that said fighter will topple Mayweather.
Stage 3: Begrudgingly accept that Mayweather put on a dominating performance.
Stage 4: When the dust settles diminish his performance, until some would believe it was a competitive bout, whilst moving back to stage 1.

Chavez. Floyd dominated Canelo, but didn't embarrass him. And way too much has been made of that last round knockdown. Martinez had his legs back well before the final bell.

Yeah.....I mean Chavez had about 25 pounds on Martinez come fight night. Canelo didn't have that kind of an advantage over Floyd and Chavez is at least two inches taller than Martinez is while Canelo and Floyd are comparable.

Martinez, the middleweight was putting on Chavez jr, the cruiserweight. For Martinez to batter, bruise and back up the much larger man like he did for virtually the entire fight, takes overcoming a lot of obstacles and Martinez overcame them impressively.

well chavez got smacked around and completely dominated up to that last round. Canelo got out boxed but not beat up.

Chavez got it worst. Then again Canelo wasn't aimlessly following Mayweather around the ring swinging one punch a round and I doubt he smoked weed before the fight either. Just keeping it in context.

Chavez almost made a legendary comeback, so I'd have to say Canelo who never had Floyd in trouble.

Even though Chavez took more of a beating, I think Alvarez was "schooled" more. A schooling implies we learned something about a fighter. We didn't learn anything about Chavez, and he actually almost got the insane KO at the end.

Exactly, those round 12 theatrics were greater than anything Canelo was able to muster over the course of 12 lopsided rounds.

This. Chavez got a beating where Canelo was taken to school!
