      [QUOTE=Super_Lightweight]
No one said Gatti is the best, but Floyd can be content with being "the best" while Gatti is recognized as the champ. You can call yourself the best all day.

      QUOTE]

The reason that there's a Gatti backlash is because certain types try to take Gatti's abilities to the next level. Gatti is an average ("C") fighter with a very good chin. Period.

As Chuck D said, Don't Believe The Hype.

I saw the same thing happening with Vinny Pazienza and Ray Mancini. You latch on to a marginal, but adequate, fighter and try to pump him like he is Sugar Ray Leonard or Roberto Duran.

The willingness to have your face punched in alot is NOT a skill. Boxing is "hit and not be hit" , "the sweet science".

Actually most of his fans don't take him to the next level. We say that he is boxing's most entertaining star and a guaranteed thrilling fight every time out. Its that people trip and rip on him just to get a rise out of his loyal fanbase. ALl the people who slurp Mayweather were probably slurping Roy Jones too until he lost. They're favorites will continue to be an undefeated fighter until he loses and then they'll move on. Thats not loyalty. Thats like picking A-Rod as your favorite player because he's the best

Some people just admire ARTISTRY. When Roy Jones can toy with someone in the ring, or Mayweather can throw impossible six punch combos while pivoting, or Jordan drives the lane and dunks on three guys. There is a contingent that is appreciative of athletic ability and values that.

There is another camp that values the quality that Gatti brings into the ring and that is a willingness to endure a lot of punishment (most of the time).

But the athleticism quality is alot more RARE than the 'heart'. We watch in wonder as Barry Sanders changes direction. But the O-line is enduring alot more pain.

Admiring a unique gift isn't nutslurppery.

no doubt. I'm well aware of his limitations, but love watching him just the same. I dont know before the bell rings if he's going to win or not, but I do know theres a 99% chance I'm going to enjoy the fight...thats good enough for me. If I'm just in the mood for a top technician, I'll watch Marquez.

Floyd is a defensive master so gatti did what he could, and made good money doing it. Lol, I'd say floyd is grateful for that chance to make money he's not able to make on his own anyway

By the way, with regards to Gatti's money. Floyd made the biggest payday of his career with Gatti. True. BUT, Gatti also made HIS career high with Floyd. It was a two-way relationship.

Gatti got the big paycheck that he wanted.

Floyd got the big paycheck that he wanted, but also much more: He got the "Oh ****! Who is this guy?" visibility that has set up his future dates.

              Gatti's purses:

              Mayweather- $3.5 mil guaranteed
              Leija - $2.1 mil
              Dorin- $1.8 mil
              Branco - $930, 000

              Floyd's purses:

              Gatti - $3.1 mil guaranteed
              Sharmba - $3.2 mil
Judah - $5 mil guaranteed + cut of PPV

Both got what they wanted out of that fight. Gatti just paid a STEEP price for it.

His heart is enormous, he refuses to make excuses for injuries and bad circumstanes. thank you arturo for reminding us what boxing and all sports are supposed to be.

Yes he did deliver and I'm happy for him.

Unfortunately I've read a lot posts in this forum insulting and pulling the guy down despite what he has accomplished. In fact I saw one poster said he should retire or commit suicide. ****I'N haters. JOKERS at that, people who claims they love the sports.

If you don't respect Gatti, **** you and watch a new sport. Gatti IS boxing.

                      I love Roy and Gatti.

Duplicity, you're an assclown. You know jack **** about boxing. You attack "hype" that no one ever even suggested. Everyone knows Gatti's limits. And we also know his attributes, like heart, chin, and a power...that's what makes him a name...something Floyd still hasn't done even after beating Gatti.
