for real though did you even see sweet pea at his best your assesment is a joke sweet pea was a very good offensive fighter much better than Floyd he also threw twice as many punches as Floyd was the best counter puncher around he also changed his style every fight and was deadly accurate puncher as far as adjustments sweet pea was the best he never watched footage of his opponents and would adjust from round one and continue the whole fight adjusting he could stand infront of anyone and dodge and parry anything coming he just did not continue training hard into his mid 30's like Floyd and by the time he fought Tito he was shot he could avoid shots in any fashion close or at range you probably have only seen him fight once and are making yourself look ****** by appraising the guys career off of one fight every thing you said was so far off it's not even really funny he threw punches in bunches and still avoided being hit I think Floyd is a great fighter don't get me wrong but you obviosly have watched very few sweet pea fights he was every bit as dominate as floyd and did it against prime Hall of fame fighters watch a few and you might learn that floyd was not the first to lace them up and to the origional Question Pernell SWEET PEA Whitaker is the GOAT period

Pernell aint shiet!! Im not gonna pretend that I seen every fight, but if you say he was out of prime and not training, that right there shows he isnt on Floyd's level. And my comment about his fight with Trinidad was all I really needed to say. How can you stand in front of him so you can be close enough to land, but never considered him having an easy target with you being in front of him. To me it seems like he always moves his head the same way. He does that bob and weave mess. He kept trying with Trinidad, and was not fast enough to avoid the punches. Floyd's defense is much more diverse. He's more so instinctive, and after a few rounds he has you bodyscanned; He knows what angles your punches will come from. Can do plenty of things to avoid a shot. If Floyd's defense was one dimensional anyone with speed could have caught him. But he changes up too much! Its obvious Floyd is a much better fighter. Much more complete. I dont care about Pernell throwing combinations. Floyd lets his hands go when his opponents let him. But just boxing, countering, being accurate. Offensively he's very skilled.

No because Sweet pea is not really as good as Floyd. Floyd is a big star because of his skills. He makes every fight look easy and people watch the fights because they feel like their apart of history. While Pea was a great defensive fighter. Floyd is much more complete. He changes his style for every opponent, makes adjustments, accurate counterpunching etc. Im not saying that Floyd has fought anyone as good as Trinidad but that fight is an example of Pernell not having the ring gameplan. He felt because he was smaller, he would have to stand toe to toe to land. But Trinidad was fast so pea was basically an easy target standing ring in front. And Pea wasnt defensively good enough to avoid shots up close. Had that been Floyd, he would have trained to use his legs and came in the ring conditioned to be lightfooted. He would have put space in between him and his foe, and darted in and out to overwhelm him. Then he would pick certain spots to fight up close. Sweat Pea doesnt have half the skills that Floyd has.
