BoxingScene.com recently spoke to interim WBC lightweight champion Omar "Panterita" Figueroa. Figueroa won the title on July 27th in a "Fight of the Year" candidate against Nihito Arakawa. The original plan was for Figueroa to return to the ring in either November or December but Figueroa injured both of his hands in the fight and said that he doesn't think they will be healed in time to take another fight this year.

Get off your high horse.

Every fighter does not have the same skills, athletic, ability, trainer or opportunities.

Fighters like him have to make a living with what they have, just like everyone else, people like to act like they're better than these guys bu they are not.

Just look the Mayweathers gym, top trainers emphasize defense with fighters from all over the PLANET, and yet the only one winning is Mayweather. Same trainers, yet the only one's taking beatings are everyone not named Mayweather. What does that say about your statement?

Everyone does not have the same capabilities, and im not ragging on the Mayweather fighters, takes guts and they want to learn their craft, nothing but respect.

This could be a blessing in disguise...

The time off will allow him to gain some of his man strength and let the Lightweight Title picture clear up a little. After a quick tuneup, I can see him coming back to a vacant and/or decent WBC titleholder or GBP attracting Ricky Burns to the US for his US debut. I wouldn't put him in there with Abril or Vazquez at this point, their styles are built to neutralize pressure fighters. Even if he's able to get the win, they won't let him look good doing it.

you are right about that and his hand most likley would of been hurt either way, but at the same time omar could of fought smarter he was caught up in the excitement of the crowd and the japanese guy all up in his grill the whole fight didnt help calm things down either lol

I agree with you: it's a real pleasure to see Figueroa kid working.
Unfortunately he injured his hands before -- Omar needs proper medical assistance, attentive training, and (maybe) some style adjustments...

Good little fighter. I was looking foward in seeing him again on his next bout. I hope that problem won't be a lingering one
