Zou Shiming will be in his third fight - or would you rather he fight for a world title as well?

Chavez/Vera will be high octane until the knockout comes. And Shiming like any other prospect deserves to come up properly. Not his fault China treats him like a rock star and he's getting paid more than probably your favorite fighter for a 6 rounder
Vera is probably the 20th best guy between 160-168, which Chavez could campaign between. That is worse than a tuneup, that is a straight up appearance fight that is not headline material and not worth the money they are paying them, which is only available because HBO has plenty of excess budget since they blew it with Golden Boy and Arum's stable is weak. The only "high octane" will be the one sided beating Chavez deals him before the stoppage a few rounds in. PHEW, glad I stayed in for that.

Zou Shiming should not be aired in the US on HBO at all, period. Name one time a fighter in his first pro fights was headlining on HBO in his first fights as a pro. Never. Maybe its appropriate for China but not here, where he will never, ever be a star and has a terrible, ugly, boring, amateur style. The ONLY reason why HBO has him headlining is because Arum has them by the balls and can exploit them by forcing HBO to air him to boost his Chinese popularity which its obvious at this point will NEVER cross over to the US.

You are obviously a GBP hater/shill for Arum, likely because you hate Floyd Mayweather for his personality and GBP by association.

In the other hand, either Canelo packs his bags or GBP will have to open their wallet to make Cotto go back to vegas.

Just a hint watch Cotto fight for that MW crown at a catchweight of 156/7 in june!
Hey Champ, are they still looking at Marquez possibly next also? That's THE fight I want right now.

Arum got HBO eating out of the palm of his hand, they know they'd lose most of their stars without the Top Rank stable. Arum is doing exactly what people accused Haymon of doing.

Shiming wasn't on HBO, it was on HBO2, on tape delay, off prime time. The whole card cost them next to nothing, and both were better than any of those garbage SHO Extreme undercards, which is the closest comparison. I'm not complaining about SHO Extreme, any boxing is better than none, so I'm not sure why there's so much whining about a bonus Shiming + 2 bouts show in a filler slot

Because people are dumb and don't understand how basic business, such as "it's cheap as hell to tape-delay a fighter that would be of interest to hundreds of thousands of Chinese-Americans at the very least," works.

Every time I see someone complain about HBO "wasting money" on Shiming I ust immediately write them off as someone who doesn't know anything.

              Chavez-Vera + Stevenson-Cloud
Cotto-Rodriguez (plus Klitschko-Povetkin on the same night)
              Alvarado-Provodnikov
Mikey Garcia vs Roman Martinez + Donaire-Darchinyan II
              Golovkin vs Stevens

and that's not counting their PPV events in Bradley-Marquez and Pacquiao-Rios

and you guys are complaining about the HBO line up???

I'm sure that's the main reason they give it even the filler slot, besides it costing the peanuts. But to me as a boxing fan it's the 2 extra bouts that I'll tune in for. Estrada would probably never see premium cable if not for these shows

Hilarious. Any time I hear someone suggest that hundreds of thousands of Chinese Americans tuned in to see Zou Shiming I immediately write them off as someone who doesn't know anything.

I can guarantee you that for every 100 Chinese Americans who didn't give a flying **** about boxing before Zou Shiming, 99 don't give a **** while he's here.

And I'd love to hear you explain to me why the money on Zou wouldn't be better spent on a quality undercard, or how televising Zou doesn't diminish HBO's brand while the premium network across the street is busy shattering records with Floyd Mayweather.

WTF are people crying about zou for? You guys do realize what he represents for this sport don't you? Zou is a potential mega market builder for boxing, a market that is completely untouched, and is HUGE population wise smd financially wise. Zou can change the god damn sport as we know it.

As for Lou getting screwed over, I don't blame HBO one bit for choosing to work with top rank over lou. Lou treats people like dirt, he's on his last leg in boxing, and HBO probably rather not work with him. He's a pain in the butt and is constantly crying to the public about how he or his fighters get screwed over. yet he's easily the cheapest promoter in the business.
