Comments Thread For: Shawn Porter Sets Record Straight, Decisions Julio Diaz

In a rematch of their December 2012 draw, welterweight contender Shawn Porter (22-0-1, 14KOs) set the record straight with a ten round unanimous decision over former champion Julio Diaz (40-9-1, 29KOs). The score were 98-92, 97-93, 97-93.

Porter went to get Diaz's respect early by coming forward with multiple combinations. Diaz picked up his workrate in the second and was throwing combinations in close when Porter would let his hands go. They were slugging away in the third, with both landing good shots to the head. At the start of the fourth, Porter came out throwing bombs on the inside. Diaz took them well and started to return fire. Porter was starting to hurt Diaz at the end of the fourth and rocked him early in the fifth.

shawn porter is a good fighter with alot of potential.diaz is still good as well and could still win some fights out there,he did good and gave a valiant effort he just came up short, had the fight also 7-3 in favor of porter....i think its time to keep stepping up in competition cuz theres plenty of big fights out there for him like guerrero, berto, ortiz, lopez, soto karrass and others just to name a few.porter vs collazo would be my first pick if I was managing him..

Shawn has Julio's number, but that isn't inspiring me. Somehow, I don't think a hard fought win against Diaz is any guarantee of a win against, let's say, Ruslan Provodnikov, or Bradley... He couldn't take Julio out, or seriously hurt him, and Julio is an old lightweight.

Diaz is 1 tough sob, Porter seems to have reached a plateau as far as skills he's an above average fighter though. Hope he can stay busy now..
