Comments Thread For: Kevin Mitchell Faces Marco Lopez For IBF Regional Belt

Kevin Mitchell will face Marco Lopez for the IBF Inter-Continental Lightweight title at The O2 on October 5, live on Sky Sports – and hopes victory will catapult him to a World title clash with IBF king Miguel Vazquez.

Mitchell returned to action in July with a points win over Sebastian Benito at York Hall in July, his first fight since challenging Ricky Burns for the WBO title last September.

A win for the 28 year old would catapult him into the reckoning for a second crack at a World title next year, with Vazquez defending his title on September 28 against Ammeth Diaz, but Vazquez’s fellow Mexican Lopez (23-2) will have designs on the belt himself – and Mitchell says that will make it a barnstorming clash. Kevin Mitchell has always been a major player in UK boxing. However he's also been massively mis-managed. By this time he should own a Lonsdale belt out-right to hang in his pie & mash shop, but due to managerial greed he's stuck with a worthless WBO bauble!

Total rubbish its his own fault he's not done anything.

How can you blame the way he trained for Katsidis on management when he said he never turned up at the gym?

Im big Kevin Mitchell fan and also despise frank warren, however Kevs lack of career progression has been his own fault!
he didnt train for katsidis, then beat murray and got pulled over by police for having a knife in his car which stopped him from getting the rios fight! which he would have probably won considering how murray managed to put up more of a fight aginst rios than he did against kev.

Hopefully now he has his career back on track.

Mis-managed? He got a world title fight in his hometown at Upton Park. What more could he ask for? It was his fault that he didn't bother to prepare properly and completely bottled it on the night.

He got another world title shot against Burns who is a pretty weak champion and he got stopped in 4 rounds by a non-puncher.

Mitchell gets nothing from me any more.

Mitchell has no one to blame but himself. He has had his opportunities, and when he should have been training he was falling out of pubs and up to no good.

When he did get his act together, he went for a pay day against Ricky Burns. He knew his only chance was a puncher's one, as Ricky has regularly beat the brakes off him in sparring down the years.

Major player? He was on the cusp of a real breakthrough and got smashed to **** by Michael Katsidis. Since the he's been KO'd in 4 rounds by feather fisted Ricky Burns.
