Comments Thread For: Schaefer on De La Hoya Getting Help, Mayweather-Canelo

Golden Boy promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer says Oscar de la Hoya's absence from Saturday night's Floyd Mayweather-Saul Alvarez blockbuster is neccessary for the health of the former world champion.

Promoter de la Hoya will miss the light-middleweight unification fight in Las Vegas he helped to co-promote after returning to a treatment facilty to deal with his unspecified substance abuse and Schaefer told Sky Sports News that Oscar had to take time out to deal with his demons.

Schaefer said: "He actually called me on Monday afternoon and sounded terrible. He told me he needed help, that he can't go on. I put him in touch with the proper people and they helped him get into a rehab facility for substance abuse.

"Obviously the timing isn't good during the biggest fight week in the history of boxing the way it is shaping up but, you know, when you have an illness it's not like you can choose the timing and say I'm not going to go today, I'm going to go next Monday when you need hel p you need help and of course I'm supportive of that because health and life and family comes before everything else. I guess there is no need for Canelo to fight on, obviously already the GOAT.

""When you ask Mosley what surprised him most about Alvarez it was his speed. He out-speeded a speedster. He can outbox the boxer, out-speed the speedster and out-punch the puncher and adapt to any style.""

Sucks he won't be ringside for the big fight, but glad to hear he is trying to get himself better.

During the All Access taping you could tell Oscar was either letting himself go or back on the powder. There were times when the guy looked like he hadn't slept,he was unshaven and just not talking like he was in the right frame of mind. Even though there are times I can't stand the man he's a human being & in America some of us hope for the best in a person's time of need. Get well quick Oscar. .......

Ok this will probably sound ignorant, but it is because I just don't know. I've heard a lot of mention about ******* and I've never had any experiences with hard drugs, but I was under the impression that ******* wasn't that addictive. I know in its "crack" form it is but in plain jain powder form... I thought it was more recreational and people could pick it up and then put it back down a lot easier than most other drugs.

            Any insight would be appreciated.

******* is very addictive. The issue here is the delivery system. Insufflating ******* isn't addictive as smoking *******. Smoking ******* isn't addictive as injecting *******. Yes, people inject ******* as well as crack.

Heroin addicts that insufflate can't get high off it after a while and sniff to maintain. They move on to smoking heroin. Once they can't get high on that, they shoot.

If this article is regarding Oscar de la Hoya let it regard to de la hoya in any case I wish him the best of luck with his rehab treatment when it comes to Canelo let other articles reflect mayweather-Canelo. That being said you can't compare Carlos baldomir with Alvarez and as far as Mosley being the speedster he was was the speedster but the former speedster couldn't pull the trigger difference this time is mayweather is faster a more accurate puncher and a master boxer Canelo is good just not good enough it MIGHT be competitive at first but he don't have the same skillset as Floyd no way.
