    Craig Payne

This guy apparently schooled Lennox Lewis in 1984, but it must of been a robbery because there were three Canadian judges and two of them were banned from judging amateur boxing matches again. Does anybody know the result of the fight or any more info on that? I heard that a guy called Adrian Teodorescu (who is he?) said that Payne was the best Lewis ever fought as an amateur.

Payne also beat Evander Holyfield (at the 1979 US Jr championships at 178), and even beat Mike Tyson at the 1983 National Golden Gloves.

Guys, did he look good in any of his pro fights? Has anybody here ever seen him, or heard of him for that matter?

    Craig Payne. Anybody?

I got his fight against Tyson. Was pretty close. He fought from the outside, both could win.

Craig Payne also beat the great TEOFILIO STEVENSON in the amateurs. Payne for a time was the best amateur heavyweight in the USA.

That is an achievement. That alone is good enough to make a name for yourself. Stevenson is legendary.

Holy ****! Stevenson is right up there with Savon and Kindelan in terms of lb4lb all-time Cuban amateur greats.

This guy Payne, is he an idiot or something? He didn't do **** as a pro??

Kindelán has been in the mix for ages. Add Amir Khan, too.

I met Payne back around '95 at a bar when a mutual aquantence asked me to give him a ride home. He was ****ed up but it was interesting to talk to him, he's a nice guy.

I remembered that he went to Las Vegas to train with Eddie Futch at the beginning of his career & basically partied his way out of Futchs' camp. I asked him about this & he just laughed.

His biggest win as a pro was when he KO'd Samson Po 'uha & does anyone remember how close he came to making the '84 Olympic team? If I remember correctly he beat Tyrell Biggs then lost a hairline decision in the deciding fight.
