Comments Thread For: Leo Santa Cruz: Pressure, Inside Fighting Beats Gonzalez

Newly crowned WBC super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15KOs) already has WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) in his view finder. Leo says he first wants to defend his title in November or December. There are several fighters in the mix. One is Cristian Mijares, another could be Hugo Cazares. Gonzalez won the title last month with a shocking first round TKO of Abner Mares, and the two of them will likely rematch in December. [Click Here To Read More]

If his chin is also like Margarito then damn its going be tough for anyone to beat Santa Cruz.

There is no clinchers right now in those divisions which is the way to beat Santa Cruz. You have to clinch Santa Cruz every time he gets on the inside, this is how Mosley destroyed Margarito. Margarito didnt know what to do when Mosley started to clinch him up.

Thats what you do to high volume guys, anybody remember how lost Pacquiao looked against Sanchez???

        Dude looked absolutely lost.

                maybe....

Santa Cruz's resume is paper thin so who know how he'll respond to real punchers. plus Gonzalez is at 126.

Santa Cruz has great volume and stamina. he's power isn't huge but he breaks you down and finishes you.

his defense isn't that great which probably costs him in a fight against a bigger and much harder hitter Gonzalez.

Gonzalez can be KOed though but that hasn't really been a problem since he started training with Nacho.

I suspect Gonzalez will destroy Mares again and if Santa Cruz wants the same he'll probably get it too.

let Santa Cruz stay at 122 for awhile fight someone like Rigo. Arum would gladly let GBP promote that fight. these guys with no defense move up too quick are bound to get KOed sooner or later.

GBP and Haymon sometimes forget boxing has weight classes for a reason
