Comments Thread For: Burns Has Surgery on Jaw, Titanium Plate Inserted

GLASGOW, Scotland - WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns has had surgery after breaking his jaw in Saturday's draw with challenger Raymundo Beltran. Burns confirmed his injury on Twitter, with promoter Eddie Hearn adding Sunday on the social networking site that "Ricky is now in surgery to have a titanium plate in his jaw." He fought with the injury for ten rounds and was floored in the eighth round on Saturday. However, Burns managed to secure a draw - to his surprise and that of his hometown fans in Glasgow - and retain his title after the third judge scored the fight 114-114.

Burns is probably gonna be on the shelf for a good while.

Bring on Beltran vs Crawford for the vacant title

Burns can fight the winner when he's fully recoverd.

I used to like Burns not so much anymore. It's painfully clear he isn't a world class boxer. He needs to go back to fighting the euro level again. He looks good at that level and none of those guys can break his jaw either.

So you only like fighters who are world class?

Burns is limited but always trains hard & comes to fight. But because he's not as good as you thought he'd be you stop liking him. Fickle, much?

          Ha I agree 100%

Sad state of affairs when you only support elite fighters.

Let's be honest burns has done awesome considering the skill set he has
I was sure Mitchell was gonna beat him up but he proved me wrong

I am still a bit pissed off about that!

How did Mitchell do so badly?

At least inthe Katsidis fight even though he was stopped early, in that 2nd round you could imagine that Mitchell could outclass Katsidis. Against Burns he just got whomped and this was despite Kev getting his ducks in a row outside of the ring.

It is not like Mitchell has a bad chin either. His chins alright. I still have faith in Kevin.

Burns has done brilliantly in his career.

While i am frustrated with last nights decision i don't like seeing anyone who steps into the ring putting it all on the line suffer. Wishing Ricky Burns a speedy and healthy recovery.
