Of coourse they said they would...to make the fight happen. But Floyd already suggested the CW first. We all know Floyd...He will come with exccuse after excuse. If they would have said no then floyd would have had a reason not to fight him. Camp Cowardweather is just mad because they called his bluff.

Exactly, they never said boxing scene was lying. But that quote needs to be taken in context. Canelo's manager was saying at the time how much they wanted the fight, that they would be willing to go down to 150 to make it happen because they knew Floyd wouldn't fight Canelo at 154. Mind you this was just after Canelo recently fought at 147. This was years ago. The fact is that Floyd initially wanted it at 147, they negotiated it to 152. So Floyd is giving up 5 pounds to his best weight while Canelo is giving up 2 to his. Who's management is inept again?
Ellerbe is jut trying to deflect the fact that Canelo has them shook enough to demand a catchweight to defend the title he has at 154. The same thing they have been ragging on Pacquiao for years about and the same reason he said Cotto didn't really lose to Pac.

Proof is in the pudding, Floyd via early 2012:
"De La Hoya - Pacquiao fights him at a catch-weight. Cotto - he fights him at a catchweight. When I fought De La Hoya, I said 'give him to me at 154.' With Cotto - 'give him to me at 154.' Give me the guys where they are comfortable at their weight so there are no excuses.

"I look at Miguel Cotto as an undefeated fighter because he faced Pacquiao, but Pacquiao caught him at a catch weight. He wasn't the best Miguel Cotto. He was drained. He wasn't hydrated"

And Leonard Ellerbe on Cotto vs Pacquiao:

"He was a dead man walking when he went into the ring," Ellerbe said. "The casual fan doesn't know what difference one or two pounds can make when a fighter is already down to weight. Fighters know."

Team Canelo's reaction tells me Ellerbe's statement worked if he was trying to get in their heads. Mayweather's strategy begins the minute a fight is announced. All the antics we might think is foolish all play out on fight night. You can see the frustration setting in within a few rounds . I believe some of it is because of all the pre fight gamesmanship.

I'm pretty sure they were referring to the NEGOTIATIONS for the fight. Although an article on this site may have said Canelo would go to a catch weight to fight, doesn't mean it was necessarily in the contract. The two sides probably fought at great length over the weight issue. Canelo is saying that Floyd's side fought to ENSURE there was a catchweight at 152; Canelo's team always wanted to fight at 154, but conceded and agreed to 152. Canelo's team sees this as a victory, since Floyd's side wanted the weight closer to 147.

                Can't wait for this fight.

Now we all have seen the thread of Canelo stating they would come down to 152 or 151 for the fight.

So is this basically them stating that don't believe everything you see on BoxingScene?
You're really REACHING with this thread and your commentary. First off, Ellerbe never said Canelo said, he said his MANAGEMENT said it. Obviously you didn't read the article in question or pay attention to what Ellerbe said.

Canelo's manager made the comments in January 2012 prior to the Cotto fight. That was long before the Mayweather negotiations started in May of this year, but Team Mayweather used those comments against him, since the manager said he would go down to 150 in order to land Mayweather.

Ellerbe, as much as I don't like him, called it correct when he said that Canelo's management is inept and they had to take advantage of the opportunity they presented. My opinion is that they heard Floyd Sr., who is not a credible source or holds no weight in Floyd's negotiations, talking about how Floyd should fight him at welter weight or shouldn't fight him cause he's so big. Canelo's team read this and decided to say they'd go down to 152 assuming Floyd's team was against him fighting at 154, when that might have not even been the situation.

So by Ellerbe's logic we should hold Floyd to everything he said that was quoted on BoxingScene as well correct?
He said he initially would give Pac a 14 day cut off in 2010, we should hold him to that correct? He said Cotto did not deserve a loss to Pac because it was at a catchweight, that should hold true for Canelo correct? When the initial Pac/May contract was reported on both BS and ESPN showed a 50/50 split was greed on they should be held to that correct?
Goes both ways and Floyd has shown to as big a flip flopper as anyone.
Point is that those things weren't said in negotiations and is just a BS excuse for team Mayweather to save face after demanding a catchweight to defend their own 154 pound title... Don't fall for that BS.
