Analysis of the fight concerning PAC-EM

The second PAC-EM fight is a classic. PAC has showed to the world that the saying "styles makes fights" doesn't apply to him. That to that saying, there are exceptions and to those who can overcome that saying "styles makes fights", greatness awaits them.

Afterall, very few in the history of boxing have imposed their will that are able to penetrate even the most solid of perceptions.

Round 1 - uncharacteristically, PAC didn't bullrush Morales but stood up to him and was looking to box. The first round easily goes to Morales as he landed the more accurate shots; more jabs and was able to land some flush straights on the face of PAC. PAC unloads on the body using the right hook and erstwhile catches EM off-guard with some counter shots.

    EM 10-9

Round 2 - this round has set the tone for the outcome of the game. PAC CAN AND WILL HURT EM A LOT. Morales opts to look for the counter punches and uses his jab effectively catching PAC square on the face. PAC counters by continuing the body attack with combinations. At the end of the round PAC catches EM with a lightning hook which sends EM flying several feet away and if not for the ropes, a sure KD would have happened.

    PAC 10-9

Round 3 - another close round between the 2 combatants, as Morales establishes his jab and counter-punching again with PAC sticking to his plan of attacking the body on a consistent basis, even at the cost of getting flushed by Morales' left hooks.

    EM 10-9

Round 4 - another close round, with EM continuing to connect his counter hooks, but not with the same frequency as in the earlier rounds. PAC's speed is starting to show in this round. PAC caught Morales with a body shot using the right hook and Morales bends over, PAC follows up with a straight left which connects and combinations. Morales regains composure to set the tone with his jab and catches Manny with some accurate lefts. EM's nose is busted in this round.

    EM 10-9

Round 5 - Morales' jab continues to be his best weapon in staving off PAC. Morales early on catches PAC with a left jab followed by a stiff right straight. A few seconds later, PAC lands a sick left straight which snaps the head of Morales. Both fighter exchange in the center of the ring with EM landing the crisp shots to the head while PAC continues his body assault and also catching EM with some counter right hooks.

    EM 10-9

Round 6 - This is the turning point of the match. EM, worn by a lot of left straights and most esp. the body punches coming from PAC. At the start of the round, PAC caught EM flush with a new weapon which EM will never be able to defend. The faint right jab, which will eventually be a lunging left straight. A killer shot which would render EM basically a sitting duck for the rest of the fight. PAC caught EM off-guard with th lunging left straight twice, hurt him bad and simply unloaded the rest of the round. EM ate a lot of sick punches which would easily KO a fighter of weaker pedigree. EM had no answer to the lunging left, PAC used his footspeed to be out of harm's way even before EM can launch his counter shots.

A second KD should have been in order if not EM was unintentionally deflected by the ref.

    PAC 10-9

Round 7 - another see-saw battle which saw each fighter having their share of the spotlight. EM caught PAC with a flush right and when PAC was backing down, EM decided to launch a viscious assault. Caught PAC clean with left and rights. PAC disengaged and both fighters went back to the center of the ring. PAC catches Morales again with a right hook to tbe body which made Morales bend over. Seeing EM hurt, PAC proceeded to throw a lot of bombs which a lot connected. EM reeled from the shots and tried to regain composure by re-establishing his jab. By this time, PAC is walking through Morales' jab and giving flush hooks and uppercuts both to the head and the body.

    PAC 10-9

Round 8 - both fighters meet at the center of the ring. EM tries to establish his jab but PAC easily negates the jab with head movement and effective counter-punching. EM fades late in the round and PAC pummels him with combinations on the head and body. The fight should have been stopped at this juncture, Morales was simply eating too much power shots. A late rally by Morales was not enough.

    PAC 10-9

Round 9 - the jab has become a useless weapon now for Morales, it has become a liability for him. Everytime he tries to establish his jab, PAC catches him off-guard with the lunging left straight and PAC is simply jumping at him. EM back-peddaling was a bad move on the part of EM, he got caught with some shots again trying to back-peddal. The handspeed of PAC is just walking through EM's defense. EM back-peddaling towards the end of the fight signalled the end.

    PAC 10-9

Round 10 - EM continues to stick with his jab in desperation. He did a good job for at least half a minute into the fight where EM was able to pepper PAC with jabs, most of which didn't hit their mark. As EM tries to jab, PAC catches him with a straight to the face and body which sends him reeling, PAC unloads again and hits EM. The handspeed is just too much for EM to deflect. EM tries to attack a back-peddaling PAC but gets caught with a counter left hook at the back of his head which sends him to the canvass. EM gallantly tries to survive the round but PAC simply unloads upon him punch after punch.

    The ref stops the fight.

Spot on. Styles certainly don't make fights when you're as good as Pacquiao. No style will beat him.

I thought Pac won the 1st round, IMO. I was listening to the British commentators, and they're fighter said also said Pac won the 1st. I like how the Brits will stop mid-sentence to describe a vicious punch. While Jim Lampley likes to continue his with his script while a bunch of things happen.

In this fight, PAC has defied the saying that styles makes fights. Morales were able to establish his jab and counter shots but at the same time PAC was able to land his straight left and right hook flushes to the body and head. Towards the middle rounds, PAC was able to negate EM's jab making it a liability on his part using superior footspeed, head movement and the killer lunging left and sometimes just jumping at you with combinations.

Ironically, EM's best shots were all coming when he was attacking. When EM attacked, he landed a lot of flush shots. Although he also took a lot in return. When EM was back peddaling, PAC simply walked through his jab. EM's mistakes was relying to much on his jab, trying to jab while back-peddaling was a bad move. PAC got caught with a lot of jabs but simply ****** them up. EM on the process got caught in a lot of traps from the lunging left and the counter hooks from PAC.

WHat probably surprised EM the most is that he didn't knew PAC could do counter-shots. He always thought that if he pushes PAC back, his game will be easier, in many ways he was right. Until the much publisiced "Manila Ice" went to work.

Each fighter had his moments. But the bottomline is that EM couldn't hurt PAC enough to make him think twice about jumping his weight on EM's face.

Make no mistake about it, this was the most terrible beating PAC has ever unleashed upon his opponent. He trained for 2 months, he had numerous array of moves utilised by him, and he kept on punching like crazy.

I was simply amazed by the durability of EM in handling those power shots. Each of PAC's bombs can KO a lower-tier fighter.

In the end, I also worry about EM's condition. Beatings like that have a permanent effect on a fighter. EM's trainer should be fired. He was ****** enough to let EM fight when it was clear enough EM can hardly stand. EM's injuries will take years to fully recover. And for EM's sake, I hope he doesn't have brain injury or something.

It was a great fight indeed.
