Comments Thread For: BScene Staff Predictions: Ricky Burns-Ray Beltran

The big fights will eventually come for Ricky Burns (36-2, 11KO), or so promised red-hot promoter Eddie Hearn upon signing the reigning lightweight titlist earlier this year. For the moment, the Scot gets his fourth straight homecoming, headlining a show in Glasgow for his latest title defense.

While not a truly big fight, what awaits the two-division titlist is arguably the division’s toughest challenger.

Hard-luck contender Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17KO) has endured a lot of close, debatable decisions in maneuvering around the politics of the sport to reach the title stage. His patience and hard work results in his first ever title challenge, though he has to hit the road for such an opportunity, fighting outside of the U.S. or his birth country of Mexico for the first time in his career.

Smh at that Gabion guy. Typical knee-jerk prediction you would expect from a narrow-minded American boxing fan... Burns not battle tested? I guess he missed his fights with Martinez, Katsidis and Gonzales.

It says 7-3 Burns, but three of them are implying a robbery. 4-3 is maybe a better score.

        "Beltran gets a split nod.”
        - Francisco Salazar (Beltran by split decision)

The question is who do YOU think will win in the fight, not who you think the JUDGES think will win. You can't pick someone to win by SD, an SD is an anomaly, the result of a disagreement in score cards between one judge and two others. If you think Beltran will win a decision, you think he will win on points, by decision, not SD, not UD. There's only one scorecard that counts in your prediction, yours.

Why do so many idiots fail to understand this.

Yeah, but they're trying not to pick the wrong official result.

I believe Beltran will win BUT... it just might go the other way, controversially. Burns showed little in his most recent defense. Lucky for him that Gonzalez checked put claiming an injury.
