  • Boxer with worst record to hold a genuine world title

    Whats the worst fight record you've seen a World champ have, has their ever been a belt holder with more losses than wins on his record.
    Johnny Nelson held the WBO Cruiserweight title he had a record of 45-12-1

        Record doesn't really do justice, Nelson was a very good fighter who suffered crippling nerves throughout his career! When he won that title he hung on to it for nearly 10 years!

        I like Johnny, he's no bull****ter! You should read his book, very interesting story!

            Former WBA Light Flyweight champion Francisco Quiroz finished his career with a 11-15-1-1 record.

            He was like 9-10-1 when he won the title.

              johnny nelson.....lol! he suffered crippling cowardice throughout his career. his title "reign" was one of the most pathetic things ever witnessed in the history of boxing. stole the title with an early stoppage against thompson, 14 defenses and only 2 against top 10 ranked guys, never fought a guy in the top 5, gift decision against guillermo jones. sven ottke is totally legit compared to johnny. simply holding a title for a long period of time seems to trick lots of people.

              look at this calzaghe. fast forward to 29 mins. what a way to "win" a world title!

                  Three immediately jump to mind, Jim Braddock (The Cinderella Man) who had about 25 losses when he won the title from Max Baer;

                  Jersey Joe Walcott who had something under 20 losses when he gained the title from Ezzard Charles, maybe about 14-15 losses.

                  Archie Moore had about 20 losses when he took the title from Joey maxim for the Lt. Heavy title.

                  Here's a little interesting info (to genuine boxing enthusiasts) about Ted "Kid" Lewis. He won the British and European titles (when they really meant something) at age 20 in the same year, and he was also taking on all comers in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions... In the next year, age 21, he won the World Welterweight title against Jack Britton, of the USA, and over the next 5 years they fought another 19 times. In those days, travel from England was only by ship.......... or swimming.

                  Lewis was voted overwhelmingly as the Best British Boxer of the 20th Century.
