Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez: Mayweather Fight Can Change History

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is adamant his super-fight against pound-for-pound king Floyd 'Money' Mayweather will alter the course of boxing history.

Mayweather has long been considered the best fighter of his generation, with 44 wins out of 44 fights, testimony to his superiority over his peers.

The American superstar seems destined to enter the boxing Hall of Fame as one of the greatest of all time, with his current unblemished record intact.

However, rising light-middleweight world champion, Alvarez, who himself is undefeated, squares off against the majestic Mayweather on September 14, under the bright lights of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with a promise to rewrite the chapters of boxing folklore.

"This fight can change history - when I win this fight it will be a memorable win. This is what is motivating me," said Alvarez.

Canelo seems to be keeping a very cool head leading up to the fight which can only serve him well against Mayweather. He needs all the help he can get. This is a HUGE step up.

This is Trout-Canelo all over again. Before the fight, everyone (most everyone) was sure that Trout would murk Canelo, "expose" him. After the fight, "the only reason Canelo won was that f'd up open scoring".

Floyd can't get into this dude's head, he can barely stand in front of him without glasses on, lol.

Canelo is just motivating himself and building self-confidence. Floyd is a total egomaniac outside the ring, but he doesn't underestimate his opponents inside the ring. He loves playing the "I don't know who he is" game, but he's all business and trains like his life depends on it whether he's fighting a B-level fighter, C-level fighter, D-level fighter, ect.

If Floyd wins the fight, do you promise you won't make any excuses for Canelo afterwards?
