Is 1.1 bad?
If 1.1 million viewers tuned in each time for every HBO boxing main event in the year, Boxing would no longer be televised, every fight would be PPV to help pay the fighters. Thanks to the 1.4 - 1.8million viewer fights that happen, Boxing gets aired.Comment

That still doesn't make it badComment

Why is this a bump worthy thread? When Richard said this, it was fact. What happens after doesn't change that what he said at the time was true.
Many people back in the day said Floyd was not a huge draw with his 350-400k PPV's. Should I bump those 2005-2006 threads and say "Pwned, Floyd-DLH 2.4Mill, Floyd-Canelo 2.2Mill, Floyd-Cotto 1.5Mill, Floyd-Mosley 1.4Mill!"?
That would make no sense. It is true that Floyd was not a big draw back then.
1.1Mill, 850k, are terrible numbers for a televised main event fight.
1.5Mill is a huge improvement, and actually around what is considered "great" in boxing televised fights.
But sometimes you have to read between the lines. I usually don't do this, but I've listened to enough Schaefer to understand his condescending tone.
When he made that statement he purposely dismissed the growth and the potential of GGG, and fact that GGG was clearly a fighter they were building. It's not like GGG was an established star a year back, who was pulling up terrible numbers because he was stinking up the joint. It was a growth process, and Schaefer cleverly dismissed that in his smug way trying to disparage GGG the only way he knows how by bringing up the "facts" without talking about the whole story.
I can't wait to hear his next statement about GGG. It might go something along the lines of "Well his ratings were lower than Cotto and Chavez Jr."Comment
