  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya, Canelo: Making Weight is Not a Problem

Neither Oscar De La Hoya nor Saul “Canelo” Alvarez are concerned about Alvarez paying a financial penalty for failing to make weight when he steps on the scale Sept. 13 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya and Alvarez assured reporters on a conference call Tuesday that Alvarez will comfortably get down to the contracted weight of 152 pounds for his WBA/WBC 154-pound title fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Sept. 14 at MGM Grand (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT; Showtime Pay-Per-View; $74.95 in HD).

“There is a penalty, but obviously Saul is going to have no problem making weight whatsoever,” De La Hoya, whose company promotes Alvarez, said regarding a clause in the Mayweather-Alvarez contract. “He made 153 against Austin Trout, with no problem. So Saul is going to have no problem whatsoever.” [Click Here To Read More]

Just counting down the days. I'm a sports junkie but when it come to Boxing and MMA, it's just a different type of excitement and anticipation. War is upon us. Literally. Seeing two men go to battle is greatest event in all of sports. Seeing Pettis win the UFC title has me so hype for The 1 PPV and its two different sports. It was great and I'm hoping for more greatness in September. Idc what happens, just wanna see some real epic ****. From both fights! Alot of people will be tuning in. Alot! Hope it's a crazy night a Boxing!

PS I really wanna see Floyd lose but if he knocks out Canelo on some Ricky Hatton ****, I'd be real cool with that.

Canelo probably had his sack drained to make weight. Thing weighs like 25 lbs.

Nice thing is he stays undefeated no matter what. Makes the rematch more viable if he "loses" (* due to weight drain).

Considering on weigh in vs Trout he was 153.5, he has to drop another 1.5 pounds.

Doesn't matter though, even if this had been at 154 the very same people crying about 152 would just switch it up to how he gasses, or is slow, or that he's too young.

Picking on the weight is just a lot easier for them to complain about. Granted, Floyd made it easy fort them.

Just don't forget at the end of the day, the people crying would have cried regardless, Floyd just made it a lot easier for them to cry.
