I really like Trout. The problem is he's a pure boxer and even though all these boxing fans try to act like they are way more knowledgebale than casual fans, the truth is that 90% of them are just like casual fans and only want to see face first brawlers. If youre a pure boxer then you will get ripped apart and or get less hyped. You will be called a runner and so on. The only time these guys support pure boxers is if theyre of there same NationalityComment

jmm's combo's are beast vs aggressors, but seriously weak and innacurate vs guys thinkings more about defense, it ends up just looking like alot of arm flailing with how wide he throws his punchesComment
-
Yep, this is exactly right. JMM combinations are best up close when he let the Uppercuts flowComment

I know to say a guy like Trout isn't a great fighter is dumb. I am in no way saying he's destined for greatness but he is a top top fighter.I really like Trout. Can i assume your a fan of Terrence Crawford? I think he's the next great fighter. I think hes leap and bounds better than Broner skill wise though Broner has the athleticism. I would consider him the Toney to (Broner's) Roy Jones.Comment

Really because thats not what I said. And BTW who the **** cares if your in the thread anyway?
Trout is in between Great and Elite. Seriously you are a complete ****.
How is Trout not a great fighter?
Are you saying guys like Rios, Karass aren't GOOD fighters?
Are you saying Trout isn't atleast a level above them?
Because after good is great.
Now go kill yourself you horrible piece of ****.
the other day i was arguing with idiots that thought DLH was an ATG, now here's this mongoloid telling me that Austin ****ing Trout is 'great' and elite' just because he's better that Rios and Karass
you people are an embarrassment to this sport...i wish you would go back to watching something easier to follow like WWF or bass fishing
and please, dont make anymore threads the next time you think an intelligent thought passes thru your headComment

I use to say all the time that all these guys from 140-147 can fight eachtoher and they would all be called great fights that fans would be intrigued by but if Floyd fights them then its an unfair cherry pick and why wont he fight Triple G, etc....Brilliant reply!!!!
I agree on the double, no, triple standard Floyd has when it comes to his opposition.
I know this is an almost impossible question to answer but do you think Canelo is a big as threat with one shot as Victor Ortiz.
And bare with me here, I never usually get to talk with a non fanboy Floyd fan like me. Whats your favorite performance of his?
Mine despite the lack of competition will always be against Jerry Copper. The jab to the body that drops him is astounding.
He's also the only guy who can take long layoffs and is expected to still be great in his 1st fight back. Let any other boxer take a 2 years or 18months between fights and watch how they look. Let any other boxer have 5 fights in 5 years and watch how many people pick them to beat a good opponent. Not only does Floyd have to win but he has to look like the same ole Floyd or his a fraud that got exposed.
Canelo vs Ortiz with one shot? Hmm, Id probably still give the advantage to Canelo. Ortiz is more explosive and he's a Southpaw which I think has a better chance to land it against Floyd. I think Canelo is more heavy handed & naturally bigger though. Victor shoots some nice straight sharp punches but I think Canelo has a better mind and does a better job of placing his shots.
The Cooper fight was great and Floyd was way more advanced than 99% of fighters at that age or experince. Thats how you knew he was special. As far as my favorite? IDK. Too many to choose from.....lol I really like the Mosley fight though because I was a big Mosley fan, was hyped for that fight, and I loved how aggressive Floyd wasComment

I think Floyd's a great fighter too but has spent the latter part of his career not fighting the best opponents available! When he says I won't fight this fighter and don't need to fight this fighter because he has losses, then fights Ortiz, a fighter with multiple losses and bad ones at that. That's y he gets labeled a cherry picker! Even the Guerro fight, and for the record, im happy for Guerro. he's a great guy, happy he got the pay day, but beating Aydin, who's not a great fighter, loss to an espn fighter if I'm not mistaken not too long ago, and Berto did not qualify him to fight he best P4P fighter in the sport! It just doesn't! He should not be on Floyds resume at this stage of Floyds career. That's y he gets the criticism.Im a huge Floyd fan. Been my favorite ever since I saw him in his very 1st fight but Im a bigger boxing fan and I alway try to be unbiased. I went to see Canelo-Trout and Floyd-Ghost (also alot of other fights around that same time and Ill be in Vegas for this one although I may not pay to go to the fight).
I think Floyd is capable of hurting him but it depends on hos offensive/defensive he plans to be and if he will get more aggressive late in the fight when Canelo fades or chooses to coast to a victory. Canelo may have a solid chin but everyone's chin gets weaker as they fatigue.
I wouldnt be surprised to see Floyd hurt him or even stop him but Floyd is a very small guy and one day these huge guys may just be too big for him. He doesnt get enough credit for fighting these massive guys. Canelo is great but the only reason why anyone thinks he can win is because of the 20 plus pounds he'll have on Floyd on fight night.
Thats pretty much the same for any of his opponents. He's so good that anyone from WW on down is seen as a cherry pick or an unfair fight even though nearly all of them including the 140 pounders are bigger than him. The only way that its a fair fight with him is he has to fight guys at 154 or 160 and give away a ton of weight which really isnt fair
I think Floyd can hurt Canelo too, bigger question is will he try? Great defensive fighters often rely on that defense too much sometimes, especially in big fights, with big punchers. No one says it but this fight reminds me of Hopkins-Taylor. Great veteran defensive fighter, against a young strong up and comer! Also with stamina issues, butTaylor's power kept Hopkins in defensive mode the majority of the fight. Why he loss the decision, also for the record I think Hopkins won that first fight, but he loss on the cards, maybe a prelude to what can happen to Floyd if Canelo can keep Floyd cautious of his power for a few too many rounds!
This makes me ask will be be offensive enough, actually take the fight to Canelo, cuz he may have to, to keep the bigger man off him! Plus Old boxing wisdom says a GOOD big man can often beat a great little man.Comment

Answer is Yes he has a chance! Will do you one even better and say he doesn't even have to land all of his combos, just needs to throw them! Give Floyd multiple punches to defend as often as possible! Keeping Floyd on defense is the only way he can win! One shot at a time won't work on Floyd, he needs to throw 3-4 and hope 1 lands! For your point I get what you're saying about a good fighter taking away Canelo's abitly to land combos, but trout presents a set of problems(southpaw) and size Floyd won't have on his side! It's a closer fight than people think. And Canelo is more talented than people give him credit for! Win or lose I think people will see Canelo alot different after this fightPeople are saying his combinations are the key to beating Floyd but when I thought about it, Canelo didn't land any meaningful combinations against Trout. The big shots were all Single shots.
Does Canelo have a chance if he can't land his combinations.
Let me know what you thinkComment

How am i an embarrassment to a sport i have no ties to?the other day i was arguing with idiots that thought DLH was an ATG, now here's this mongoloid telling me that Austin ****ing Trout is 'great' and elite' just because he's better that Rios and Karass

I never said "great and elite" learn to read you ****ing imbecile. i said he is somewhere in between. Once again I did not say he's great BECAUSE of fighters like Rios. I said they are good fighters therefore by definition Trout is great. I will say again that this does not mean he is destined for greatness.
And I agree DLH isn't an ATG. He is between Elite and ATG. A level or two above a guy like Trout.
Let me run off some names so you can get an idea.
Gatti-good
Rios-good
Judah-good
Paulie M-good
Cotto-great
Castillo-great
Fernando Vargas-great
You seem to think fighters are either bums or ATG's
Grow up and stop assuming you a bigger fan or smarter than people it's clear neither is true.Comment
