why couldnt cotto land a hook on mayweather?

I no he landed a few jabs, but why couldnt he follow it up with a hook or uppercut?

Whats the point in having a good jab if you cant hook from it, or go to the body?

Id say a good jab is when its followed by another punch e.g

Rigo's jab against donaire, donaires lands something on ring god, then ring god jabs, and follows with a straight left which snaps donaires head back. The jab rigo throws misses, it was kind of a feint jab, but very effective, as it set up a nice straight left.

Cotto thinking he won is laughable, all he did was land a few jabs, then admired them.

Cotto should of used the jab to set up some other punches, then he could of made it closer, maybe 8-4 / 7-5,
